Appeal Secondary One Posting

infosages:
I have checked with MOE and they say we need to go back to the school we intend to appeal to submit appeal form. My understanding is that different schools have different appeal procedure/cut off date. Thus, it is better to check with the schools that you intend to appeal to. For some schools, you can submit appeal form now while there are some schools whereby the appeal form is only available after S1 posting results is out.As we are overseas around Dec 22, I need to find out how the appeal process works so that my proxy can get the paperwork done properly. Called 2 schools but given conflicting answers. Here is my understanding and hope parents here can confirm if it is correct.
1) Dec 22 report to posted school. Then go back to the school I wish to appeal submit form. Not necessary must be on Dec 22, can go on Dec 23 too to appeal.
- School A tells me to submit appeal form at posted school
- School B tells me must go back to the school I wish to appeal to submit form.
2) When submitting the appeal form, include these documents: P5/P6 result slip; achievements; certificates; photocopies of parents NRIC, child's birth cert, proxy NRIC.
Thanks for your advice. -

May i know how did u transfer to diff sec sch in the end? Did u write an appeal letter? Pls help thanks so much.
Congrats to you. Your DS hard work paid off !!skyhigh_18:
just to share my experienec.. my son did not do well last year, the sec sch we selected cut-off points went up 3 points.
so we appeal... the school respond 'they are full' vancancy will depend on whether anyone choose to leave the sch. This is what i have done
1) Ask MP to write appeal letter to the principle.
2) Write another personal appeal letter to sch.
3) Call and talk to the person in charge
4) Call MOE to check on what the sch said is correct or not. (Its confirm, the sch corhort is set by MOE, the sch cannot increase the class size)
But i heard IP program sch is different...not too sure abt that.
So we waited, end result..no one left the sch. so we have to settled for 2nd choice. Buy uniform, text etc last min. Told my son to work harder in sec 1. During sec 1 he scored top 10% of the whole cohort in tat sch and we successfully transfer him to another sec. That is another painful exercise. Luck sometimes have to play a part. :celebrate: -
How many schools can we appeal?
-
Just take note that some schools will require you to submit the Sec 1 sch selection printout as they want to see that you put the sch as 1st choice when you appeal to them. Some of my frens have encountered that and they informed me.

Can someone pls adv how we can appeal to the school which yr child wants to go but has not met the minimum cut off? Our dream school is njc, cut off 259. child only scored 255 .... depressed mama
IMHO, you should go and speak to the the school and understand their criteria for accepting appeal then work you appeal around it.
Hi all, I would like to know if the appeal process outcome decided by the schools is based on first-come-first basis, ranking of the highest T-scores first or by the CCA or special talent one child can offer to that school? -

Based on past few year's trend, generally the schools seem to go by PSLE score after PSLE posting results, and then look at exceptional CCA/ability. CCA not so critical at this stage becos should have been showcased at DSA stage. But do know of a few sec schs accepting by exceptional CCA performance after PSLE posting. Very selective. But by far see more of accepting via PSLE score.

But this year,we are all watching closely whether if and how limited the IP schools go about accepting transfer/appeal for those who already have secured DSA CO. This will have trickle down effect to most secondary schools. Eg a boy who gets NJC DSA CO gets accepted by transfer to RI on 21 Dec gives up his seat in NJC. the NJC vacancy is then filled by another boy who was S1 posted to say, a non IP top O level school ABC Sec. So ABC Sec in turn got one vacancy which is filled by another boy who was S1 posted to a neighborhood school. Now if the first action ie transfers at IP is limited then the merry go round action this year may not be as vibrant. We are all watching with bated breath. -
Hi all. My daughter is p6 this year and she has an aggregate of 230. She had put ngee ann as her first choice due to it being an IT school. But because it is a band 6 school, she wants to go to Temasek instead. How do you appeal to a school? New at this. Do help out… If she gets put into Ngee ann, what to do??

Yes yes, hci n ri mentioned that there is a directive from moe this year that they r discouraging acceptance of Appeal from those already w dsa offer elsewhere unless there is a valid reason for the request - or something that has changed since accepting the dsa offer. I think this is only fair.
The whole idea about dsa is to give students w special capabilities to go to the school which they may not qualify under normal academic achievement/cop.
