        Quixation..

You can prepare DD for these.

        1. Tackling Oral Exams
        > http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/tackling-primary-school-oral-examinations

        2. Tackling Show & Tell
        > http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/p1-show-tell

        3. Writing short sentences independently
        > http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/encouraging-your-child-keep-diary

        4. Written Expression
        > http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/p1-written-expression

        5. Soft Skills
        > Leadership skills.. (delegating work) when tasked to do project work.
        > Interpersonal skills.. (how to work well with everyone)
        > Handling $.. (to enjoy recess!)

She should be waaayyy more than prepared liao having attended Montessori preschool for early childhood education. The Science n Geography covered in Montessori schools goes beyond P1. If she finishes/graduates from the Montessori school, she would've covered Grammar as well. So I say she's reali reali doing ok n on the right track. Breathe easy my fren. :celebrate:

        You got #2 oredi?
Buds, these links are quite helpful.
My DD is in N2 and going to K1 next year. She has show & tell at her preschool. But my dd doesnt rehearse, I just know from her teacher that she says a sentence or two. She is too playful. Probably thinking her to put in some speech & drama classes.

Any experiences to share? Any one?

DS started to be keen on independent reading after being introduced to usborne young reading series. There are many titles and of various genre so can pick those that appeal more. The books are available in NLB. After that he progressed to magic school bus chapter books and now reading Roald Dahl.

Some kids just dun love to read. DS2 is a bit reluctant but he will eagerly pore through books on animals and Ben 10. So I pander to his choices as much as I can.

DS1 is the one that enjoys reading, the stuff he has read include:
                  Dinosaur Cove
Captain Underpants - lowbrow but hugely entertaining for boys
Magic Treehouse - kids who discover a magic treehouse that transport them to places and events in the past. a lot of books in this series.
Astrosaurs - about dinos who evolved and lived in space, fight between good and evil
                  Stilton books - famous enough
Shoo Rayner books - he has a few series that are very good (monster boy is the only 1 I can remember offhand)
Charlie Small - a boy who gets transported into an alternate world/time and needs to go back to his present time. 13 books (I think) in all - the series ended this year and it's really good (I enjoyed too)
Diary of wimpy kid - I got the set and DS1 couldn't keep his hands off those, I didn't try but it should be good.

We recently discovered Ali Sparkes. She writes good stuff (both in JS and J sections). Monster makers and SWITCH are 2 of the series you may like to explore. Her other books are very amazing too - I'm starting on Frozen in Time. Find that she uses good descriptive phrases in her writings and her storylines are good.

Also newly discovered is David Walliams. Some of his books \"Billionaire Boy\", \"gangsta granny\". Haven't tried personally but DS1 enjoyed one of his books - I'm planning to get him started on his other books.

                      Hi hquek,

When reading these chapter books, do you ask the kid to read out word for word? How many pages each day? Do you finish one book first then move on to another book? Are they all black-and-white books?

I try to ask my 4-year olds to read aloud some parts of storybooks each day, but they are still only interested in those colourful picture books, although some can be quite wordy also. They enjoy flipping books at their own leisure time, but I know they do not read word for word when they are reading on their own, although sometimes they can tell me the story when i read alongside with them… They are not keen in those black-and-white pages books, even those with pictures (but no colour)…
