      Thanks, Mdm Koh.

Really appreciate your comments on the above.

        Mdm Koh:

Conquer Compre is a good book, but it doesn't have pictures. It's ideal for students who appreciate the written word, but it may be boring for students who prefer looking at pictures.

As some of the parents have said, every child is different. If your child prefers pictures to words, you can consider getting The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Compre by PanPac. http://i39.tinypic.com/282m1lj.jpg\">

It has illustrations and introduces one skill at a time, so it's more doable for those who are visual learners. πŸ˜„[/quote]

Interesting! I've never seen the ultimate guide to mastering comprehension as shown above. Looks like I still very green in this area.

Hi Champion, is this the older edition of the book? The series that I bought has some pencils on the cover. https://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_search.jsp?vca001=0&vas001=ARTISTS&KEYWORD=Shaheed%20Salim

I just discovered that there are two different publishers for the lower and upper primary books. If I remember correctly, PanPac was sold to Marshall Cavendish a few years back. That could explain why the lower primary books are by PanPac and the upper primary books are by MC.

It's easy to score for S&T once your child remembers the grammar rules. πŸ˜„ The question types don't vary very much. No doubt there will be students who will forget their tenses and get one or two questions wrong, but this will not be a prob once they become familiar with the question types.

I think practising in assessment books helps, but it's more important to ensure that your DS remembers what he has learnt and knows how to answer different types of questions. As for vocab and cloze, apart from getting him to practise, you can also teach him about suffixes and prefixes, and how to use contextual clues to figure out the answers.

                HI Mdm Koh,
Thanks, I will bear that in mind. Will attempt a comprehension cloze myself and then teach him to find clues. Appreciate your advice.
Tearing my hair out over his inability to handle S&T 'unless' despite having done so many exercises :frustrated:

\"Unless\" is like \"if\". It's used when stating a condition. Try using sentences that he can relate to. E.g. \"Unless Janet's DS finishes his homework, he will not get to watch TV.\" πŸ˜‰

Oh, will comments on ksp have such an effect? πŸ˜‚ I've to emphasize that the series is good for students who like pictures because of the illustrations. For students who like to read, however, they will be quite happy working on the other assessments books, like those from the Conquer series or books by EPH.

πŸ˜‚ I see that you have not been to the HappyCall pan, breadmaker, honey, etc threads

In this case, the added motivation to buy will be that, it's on a school's booklist
