Crystalbelle, same situation here…bed space is always being ‘eaten’ up. Hahaha…

Cost and some one to look after is the main cause…our parents had went through the tough times, very receptive to take care of grandchildren…else is we had a higher standards and had a different perspective of them handling our DS / DD…hiaz…

        crystalbelle:
Why is popular/well known school better than normal neighbourhood school ? :?

For one, it is because of the teacher and prinicipal. But then again the prinical will change every 5 years so will the teacher... and if the kids cannot be in the top few class in each level , \" rumours \" had it that chances of the teacher of the rest of class isnt that good even in well know/SAP/popular sch .. :scratchhead:
🤷 hearsay that for SAP/ well known schs, the kids are well prepped before they enter P1 so the standard is already there. so the teachers tend to give more challenging questions/ be more advanced...

So, in another words, if the kid is not well prepared, it would be the best to just go for normal sch... if not the kid will be too stress... 🆒

I understand a new sch near my place had name the classes by different terms rather than 1A, 1B, etc..
They using class naming such as Innovator, Thinker, Discoverer..

those rushing for popular/well known schs are mostly with kids already in enrichment/well prepared; hence going into normal neighbourhood schools the kids may be understretched; many people said no sweat, so long kid is good, can get into preferred sch via GEP but they must know that GEPper and advance kids are very different, not all advanced kids are gepper material. at the end of the day, most people prefer a certain popular/well known schs probably because of the CCAs, culture, environment etc. JMHO.

Popular vs Neighbourhood vs GEP Sch…lots of factors to consider as well.

                        1. Teachers:
Popular Sch - teacher may like to streamline out and brings everyone to standard, focus on hardworking students and will not leave out those struggling in the same boat
Neighbourhood - teachers may be newly graduated…a learning ground and general do not pay too much attention and details
GEP school - tends to focus on students with potential, discipline and self motivated

This is likely to be one aspect…others such as neighbourhood sch and popular school focus may be on CCA aspect to shine and promote school…in comparison to well-known or branded school.

Very headache for parents nowadays…if can give it a shot on a better known school, why risk it?
