All About Full-Time Maids

Oops, Myanmar maid

Was reading the part about rules with great interest.
I have a list of houserules that I gave to my maid on the first day and I asked her to sign on it. I went through all the rules and expectations but guess what, less than a month later, she wanted some exemptions.
I told her that if she was using her own sim card, she can have the phone every night for an hour after her chores are done for the day. My rationale is that if there's an emergency, she can use the housephone, if she wants to talk to other maids (which she does, and I suspect a lot...) she can always talk out of the windows when we are out.
The thing is she actually lied about having her own sim card and chose to use ours, even though theirs is much cheaper to top up. I closed one eye. Next she wanted her hp in the daytime, even tho she said that she won't use it. She said that she couldn't receive smses from her husband because the phone was turned off. ?????? :siao: I told her that smses can be received whether or not the phone is turned on. And also told her that if she couldn't reach her husband, she could call/sms her sisters or aunt cos he was living with them.
The best part was that she actually blew more than $40 in 2 weeks on calls and smses. I told her to use budget lines, and printed out and explained how to use them. She didn't want to, saying that she couldn't get through. :slapshead:
She only stopped asking for her phone in the daytime when I told her that she had to start paying for her own phone bills as the $40 was supposed to last her till the end of her loan period.
So the moral of the story is, it's really a case of you give an inch, they take a yard. :frustrated:
I don't give her her hp because I've seen and heard of many horror stories. I don't mind letting her keep it, when she's earned my trust and prove that she's disciplined enough to do her work. So far, she hasn't. -
I'm starting to think that I may just have to do without a maid.
At first this maid was very promising. She was very cheerful, very polite, seemed to be adapting well and fast. The only weird thing was that she kept asking about our personal details and about how long my first maid lasted, and why my first maid left.
I brushed all these concerns aside, cos I thought that she was just being chatty.
Then the pattern started showing. First it was the phone, then it was the dishes left to pile up in the sink. Next it was a case of clothes being left to dry for 3 or more days, and ironed clothes being returned after at least 2 weeks. :frustrated: She's only doing housework, and not even looking after my kid. A lot of days, she only has to clean 2 to 3 rooms but she never seems to be able to finish the chores on time. My apartment is small and there really isn't that many chores to do.
Now I realised that she asks so many questions because she wants to compare and store info that may be useful to her. She keeps asking us where we are going, and what time we are coming back, to keep track of our whereabouts. And when i went on a recent trip, I refused to tell her when we were coming back but made sure she had enough food and stuff to last her. My parents also stayed with her. Somehow, she managed to con my mum into telling her when we were coming back by asking if we were coming back on a certain day. :scared: :yikes: How conniving!
And she actually let 2 strangers into the house when we were not around, although I've told her not, and it's stated in the houserules! She didn't even call me to check if we were expecting the ppl, and only told me after I came back. She would have actually let them into my bedroom if I hadn't locked it! -
It's really all about luck. My friend chose her maid without interviewing, and chose a short one, about 1.45m, even though the agency advised her not to.
What a gem my friend got! Her maid looks after her children and does the housework. Her maid cleans the houses of her parents when she goes over there with the children, even though my friend has asked her not to. When she goes back to my friend's house, she continues to do the housework as well. She even vacuumed the floor every day until my friend asked her to stop!
My friend appreciates her maid, and gives her monthly bonuses of up to $50 depending on how well the maid has performed. And my friend lets the maid keep her hp because she's earned their trust, even though the maid is looking after 2 young kids. -
Wow! That’s so unheard of these days. What nationality may I ask?
-
Peapot, you asking about my friend's maid? She's indo, and speaks better english than my ex and current maids. I keep asking my friend if her maid has a twin ,or a sister!

Do you know which maid agency ?
I ever heard that usually the short maid do the housework better than taller one.
they are more hardworking like my 1st maid… -
I’m not sure but I think it’s nation. Then again, not all their branches or maids may be good.
Maybe short maids are just grateful that someone chose them despite their height?

I observe from biodata that 9 out of 10 maids from indo are rather short around 150cm, :scratchhead: by nature?
