The sms received indicate that DS will be going to ACSI express and reporting 8.30am tomorrow.

Thought they will only know if it’s IP or express tomorrow ?

How come there are people with 259 and only posted to ACSI express as indicated in the sms received this morning ? Someone posted that on the PSLE 2011 thread.

Do they just indicated everyone as express ?

Couldn’t get into ACSI with a tscore of 246 inspite of putting as first choice. Last year COP was 245.

Anyone knows the COP this year? Had taken part in the DSA too. What are my chances if I appeal?

The sms is sent by MOE. And as autolycus has mentioned the O and IP sorting is done by school. So should wait till tomo morning.

But one should make use of past history and present events to estimate certain things; in most years, the COP was 250-255 — events in 2010 caused this to drop below the typical level, and the second half of this year caused confidence to rise. Hence 246 was probably too low by at least 5 points. Market forces.

Called ACSi this morning. For this year, COP is 255 (IP) and 247 (Express). Hope this helps.

What are my chances if I appeal, with a tscore just 1 point short of COP?
Heard that if sec 1 and sec 2 results are good then can jump to the IP stream after taking the HAST test. Is the Tscore also taken into account at this point? In the past have students with tscore lower than 250 been transferred to IP in year 3? What was the factor which helped them in the transfer?

The T-score is not taken into account anywhere else in the course except at entry to Year 1. Students with T-scores lower than 250 have often been admitted to the IP, sometimes by DSA, sometimes by transfer; the main internal guideline is overall performance in assessment.


The COP for IP entry is set by the school internally at 255. There’s no hurry to get in though; two years of good consistent work will set anyone up for lateral transfer at the end of Year 2.

There are about 10/11 classes of express in S1 & 2, totally 350 students. About half will be from non-affiliated with T-score of 247 to 254. This will total 175. 100 out of this 175 will be selected to transfer to IB in Y3. Assuming the higher T-scorers continue to do consistently well, then the 100 will most likely be from T-score of 250 to 254. Note : Quite a few assumptions here : equal distribution from 247 to 250, high T-scorer continue to do well in S1/2 and perform well in CCA, other activites, interviews. But I think weightage will be on academic still.

Err how come your analysis is only based on the around 175 from non affiliated school ? What about the other 175 from affiliated school ?

A Hast test is also part of the selection process right ?

I think the analysis is irrelevant, based on the evidence. Thimberwolf is right to suspect that those assumptions may not hold true: by the time they get to the end of Year 4, about 300 of them will probably qualify for the IBDP, a majority of which are IP track, and some of which will be high-scoring O-level track students.


High T-scorers at this age and for this range don't really make much difference. Again from my experience, any child in the range 225 to 250 will show a lot of overlap; 235 to 255 likewise, and 250-260 hugely so. For boys especially, developmental considerations make it hard to predict; for IP courses, it's even less predictable because the quality of curriculum is so uneven in terms of delivery and design.

At Year 5, this is even more complex. I'm quite confident that many girls from 200-240 can all score 5 A1s without undue difficulty. For boys, I'd be cautious predicting anything below 240, and I've seen really high scorers do really badly.

So the best thing is to focus on your own child's strengths and weaknesses, get some qualified help if necessary, interrogate the school staff often (that's what they're there for even if some might not realise it), and help that child have fun while developing a good mix of excellent capabilities and skills for the future.
