If hubby is not able to join us for dinner, I will set aside his rice n dish portion…and will heat it up in microwave oven when he is back, esp soup. Cos I think nobody will like to drink cold soup. Sometimes he knows I have to close my kitchen by 830pm…so he will settle his dinner outsides by himself. If he is able to join us, he will help me to scoop the soup. My older kids will scoop the rice for everyone and lay the table.

As for breakfast, if it is simple bread/bun stuff…I will just leave it on the dining table n let everyone helps themselves. But sometimes, if it is something like Prata, rice dumpling, chee chang fun etc - i will serve them. I don’t want them to dirty the place.

Just curious, for those SAHM with no maid, do you serve yr dh dinner ( as in scoop up the rice and heat up the food nicely) when he is back from work? Also for the breakfast, do you need to prepare for the family? Or everyone in the family is expected to make their own breakfast?

Yes, scoop the rice for everyone and lay the table for lunch & dinner. Because I can set up much faster.

Breakfast dh eats in office. Kids make their own breakfast ie. spread their own bread or look for biscuits in the cabinet when they wake up. I make milk for them because I don't want them to boil water, although my dd1 knows how to make milk for herself & dd2

          Just wondering, how about houswork?

Do you expect kids to do their own chores?

I feel that being a SAHM doesn't mean I've to clean up after their irresponsible mess. My kids treat our house like hotel. Tissue on the floor will remain on the floor even after 6 days 7 nights. Really make me fume! So whenever they accumulate enough trash, I will explode. I made them pack & clean their own room, keep their clothes and change their bedsheets.

I used to cook rice for whole family when I was 8 years old, did simple marketing at 7 years old and wash my younger brother's cloth diapers when I was 11 years old. Although I don't expect my kids to do the same, but I don't want to drive myself insane doing everything in the house either. I taught dd1 how to separate the laundry recently. Intend to let her do her own laundry sometimes. 10 years old should be old enough to manage laundry.

If dh mess up the house, he will kanna too. I show my love to family in other areas. Cleaning up after their irresponsible habits is however not one of the areas. Can't stand untidy living space :spank:

Simple household rules was set since day 1 when I am SAHM…eg make yr own bed, pack up yr own mess, clear yr own plate etc. As kids grow older, I set more regulation eg wash their own cups. As for dh, if he is not traveling, he knows toilet n bath tub will be his responsibilities. Sometimes he will help me to wash up the dishes after meal, clear the garbage at the end of the day. Once they are used to the tasks…I need not nag them daily…of course there are instances when they slack and I hv to remind them…

I expect the kids to clear the mess they create...that includes their books, eraser dust, stationery and tissue paper. Yes, that includes hubby...if he messes up, he will get it from me too.

This holiday, the Wii/x-box controllers are on the floor and the cables are on my nerves. Warned them both to clear up after playing each time or else I will keep everything before 31st Dec.

I like to inculcate the house chores to do.But my DS doesn't like.Sometimes I asked to do.First time he did happily.Second time he doesn't want to do.So I didn't force him.He buy something from shop.

My son plays with his K1 sister and behave like nursery boy.I want to see more mature in him.Today they were eating McDonalds and I went to shop. When I returned they never throw the rubbish into the gabbage bin.Just now I scold him,why you didn't throw. He asking me need to throw?u never inform me? :faint: I said use ur common sense and do.We r not animals.

Whenever he use his room everything will in the floor.I don't know how he does so fast.Just now I asked him to put back. :frustrated:

ds1's 'chores' is to take care of himself and his brother's breakfast on days that i sleep late (and they don't have school). he is also incharge of ensuring that all lights are off and all windows closed when we go out. this holiday, he is incharge of cooking rice (scoop, wash and into the cooker only la..easy peasy). yesterday i asked him if he wanted to help me vacuum the floor and he said yes, so we'll try that next week. 🙂

ds2 likes to help me hang and fold laundry. 🙂
however cannot rely on ds1 to pack his table...his definition of 'neat' is different from mine. 😓

Just curious, since we are now talking about kids doing housework, since how old (are the kids) when you mums start training them to do houseworks? And which houseworks do you start first, and what are the progressions?

.the cord vac cleaner is too much even for me to handle. 😓
