            OT:

Read that coconut oil is saturated fat, so dunno why some health people said it’s good for losing weight??

If using coconut oil in cake, do we drop the butter in equal amount or different?

Not sure if it’s 1:1 ratio coz the brownie recipe using coconut oil is totally different from the normal brownie recipes using butter, cocoa powder and flour. The one with coconut oil also uses pure dark chocolate bars and almond meal rather than the cheaper cocoa powder and wheat flour.

Organic coconut oil is not for losing weight. It has lanoleic acid and that’s good for health (brain, skin, memory etc). It still makes you fat if you take too much of it. The bad fat is trans fat (margarine, shortening etc). Coconut oil has been maligned for many years.

My brownie has no wheat flour so it will not add to my carbo intake. My diet has to be low carbo, but of coz I cannot eat too much of any sweet stuff. But this brownie is home made with the best ingredients so I feel better eating it.

hmm…maybe coconut oil is not for losing weight since it contains fat, but I read some emails saying that coconut oil is to be part of the plan if want to lose weight…hmm…

                    hi autumnbronze

The recipe is from this website
                    http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2006/01/dark-chocolate-brownies.html

I didn't add any nuts or choc chips. Think you can reduce the brown sugar a bit coz it was quite sweet. I replaced the 30g brown rice flour with normal rice flour coz it's so difficult to get brown rice flour. It's only like 1 tbsp of that so no point to get a whole pkt of organic brown rice flour which costs $9. Maybe can use Nestle Cerelac brown rice cereal if your kid still eats that?

Dun eat too much of it in one go if you want to lose weight. Coconut oil is still oil.

If you really want to lose weight, eat the carbo and sweet stuff you like at lunch time. Try not to eat any carbo after 5pm. It's not total avoidance or deprivation but watch the time of the day you eat those sinful things.

                      Hi smurf

You can read all about coconut oil benefits here:
                      http://www.coconutoilbenefits.org/

It says that coconut oil aids weight loss in the sense that the body channels this fat to be used as fuel or energy. The body won't store this type of fat. But I still think we cannot eat too much of it. My mom took 1 tbsp/day of coconut oil (pharmaceutical grade) as a health supplement and she found her waist line increase... so hmmm...yes I wouldn't let go of myself just becoz coconut oil was used instead of shortening or butter.
