Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

hi all,

i signed up my gal, 4 yrs old this yr, at berries, N2 .
yesterday was her 4th lesson.
For the 1st 3 lessons, i actually have to attend with her, as she keep asking me not to leave the room and was sobbing abit when i want to leave.
Yesterday i left her with the assistant teacher and left the school. i told her teachers before i left the class that she wil be sobbing for around 15 mins then will be fine.
i sneaked back around 45 mins later to peek back at the class, and true enough she is not crying and is listening attentively to the teachers :celebrate:
her teacher even told me when i went to pick her up after her class that i am so spot on, she stopped crying after 15 mins :lol:
my dd's mandarin improved quite abit, she can tell us that, the night has fallen, my daddy and mummy have come back home in mandarin
have to revise with her the notes though, as the teacher feedback that her memory is quite good, but just that her pronounciation is very bad .
the teachers at berries tampines are very patient, telling me that sometimes it take time for the kids to settle into their new environment, but eventually they wil settle in

Care to share which Berries you had enrolled for the N2?

I not yet confirm the chinese enrichment for my 2 kids yet.I do quite like Pandan Valley where it is very conveneince.

I just called Berries Pandan Valley, thinking of moving my boy from Woodlands to somewhere closer. I was told that Pandan Valley classes are completely full for both weekends and weekdays, and the wait list is very long.

Now trying my luck with Berries West Coast.

After reading this post, I am starting to panic. My son is in nursery now, he speaks to me in Mandarin rather fluently and his kindergarten teacher is from China. However, he can recognised not many words. Some of his classmate are attending either Tien Hsia or berries.

I read both English and Chinese books to him but mostly English. He watches English TV programme and doesn't like to watch Chinese programme. He is starting to read in English.... at the rate he is going, I am afraid he might dislike chinese in the future.

Should I be Kiasu and enrol him in Chinese enrichment classes? Please advise.

If you don't have a Chinese speaking environment at home, then it is best to put him in Berries no later than 4 years old.

It is not being kiasu. It is important for the child to build up his foundation in Chinese before the age of 6, when it is very easy for kids to learn any language. It is especially important to teach them to recognize as many chinese character as possible, and avoid any enrichment classes that teach hanyu pinyin before 6 years old. This is because Chinese is not a phonetic language, which makes it harder to learn than English. Kids will naturally prefer to use English or hanyu pinyin and reject Chinese characters because of the difficulty.

Any advices should go for Molin Tutorial (N2 & P1) or Yuquan Lang School (N2 & P1)? :?

So far able to find both have the same timing slot where I can bring 2 child go at 1 time.

i think Berries at tampines central seems pretty good.
my gal is now attending the class without me.
the teachers there are patient, they even recommend i stay in with my gal if she really can't get used to attend the class alone.
but i want her to attend the class alone as i feel that she will learn more if i am not sitting besides her.
now after each class, the teacher wil tell my gal in chinese, \" you are so clever girl today, so brave. i see you next week ok?\"
giving encouraging words to my dd.
my dd wil tell me, the teacher says i very clever in mandarin :oops:

I'm enquiring on behalf of my sister who has a Pri 1 child & a K1 child... She is unsure which Chinese class to send both her children ... as she doesn't hv the time to attend the trial lessons (if any) ... she was thinking of Molin - anyone has any feedback to share? Thanks.

I actually recommended her Tien Hsia or Berries as i only know these 2... but now she asked me abt Molin..so i decided to check out more

Altho i m fully aware ...to each his own.. and we have to assess our own needs vs the centre's teaching styles & evaluate what might interest our kids most, i thought it doesn't hurt to also listen to what other parents' hv to say ... their invaluable insights/inputs /views ... So, All comments /feedback welcome xie xie ni.
