      Hi lionheart n hquek,

Tks for both yr advise and sharing of experiences. I was expecting more stress in pri sch compared with pre sch. Cos my son's childcare is alr laying basic foundation for the kids maybe to prepare them for the real thing in pri sch. They were taught simple multiplications, nouns...etc and they hv english n chinese wkly spelling test and during that time i thought it's really stressful to be children of this generation (heehee). Therefore, thought that i shd be more prepared and expect more of p1 too. Now I'm glad n relieved tat at least for lower pri, don hv to stress the kids too much. At least to the kids, they will enjoy gg to sch 😉

Does the school have any rule about the colour of jacket?

It’s really cold in the morning, DD1’s jackets are all pink.

          TIA

Think so. Kids are encouraged to wear HWS jacket. Can buy from bookshop. But I’m not sure if they enforce.

hi fel2729, multiplication!! :scared: I don't think DS1 was exposed to that in kindy.

Anyway, based on what I got for 2011 P1 spelling, it's really a walk in the park. And my kid's dictation was ok too, the teacher actually read it out to them few words at a time - so actually didn't have to memorise. Nonid to worry overly. Only problem I had was when DS misheard the word and wrote something else - spelling correct but wrong word. :frustrated:

But if they see this comment and up the ante, I'm very very sorry. :xedfingers: 🙏

I understand that they will 'big wind blow' in P3 based on P2 results. So P1/2 same classmates, same teachers. P3 there will be a change. After that, I'm not so sure.

Streaming is a word used too loosely. What exactly are you all ooking for?

                    Academic Streaming (1)

If you wish to find out where is the best academic student in the school, they will be found only in 2 P5/P6 classes. Period.

                    Ability Streaming (2a)
Good-results students are all scattered mostly in 4-5 classes in P3/P4,

                    Ability Streaming (2b)
Children are also group into classes based on their Chinese abilities.

                    My conclusion
As a simple gauge, if your child go into a class where the Teacher spend most time 'lecturing' their behaviour than teaching, you will probably know how well your child fare in his level.

When kids or even adult thought they know a subject, they might refuse to listen/learn. They find the topic bored when they are not expose it correctly. Hence it create a wrong impression. The process of learning/unlearning is much more painful.

Based on my experience, the coaching process is far more painful when come to to coach a kid to learn&unlearn than coaching kid that knew nothing.

I will remain skeptical if young kid are exposed to skills that they do not need to know. It is not necesary good for the kid in the long run.

oh. so that means strongest kids are not in 1 class only but could be spread out over 4-5 classes? and that there will/could be a mix of strong and weak kids in the same class?

Like this will weaker kids find it hard to catch up later if they are being put in same class as stronger kids? I understand it's good to have them mix and mingle, but feel there are pros and cons about it.

So that means during class time there will be movements around say, when it comes for chinese/other subjects?

okay, will start asking DS next time what his teachers do in class.

And for your last...I thought you say that we (parents of students) are all in PSG already? kekekekek
