        Hi all,

Thanks for your reply and sharing with me your views.
Understand from my DS that one of his friend got 231 with Higher Chinese 2 points manage to get in..too bad, my DS did not take up Higher chinese.
I shall need to wait for another 2 weeks before I know whether my DS will be selected or not....it's really a very long wait....anyway, Happy New Year to all of you!
Hmm you will only know the results of the appeal two weeks later?

Most of my friends appealing for HCI, AISS, NASS and CHS knows their results already..

          Hi Ichigokun,

Yes, I was told that. If my DS is selected, I will receive their call by 13.01.12. If not, that means he is rejected. But I guess the chance is slim by now…

                    Hi Sunbrazen

                    & Apologies ycylil - [slightly off-topic]...

Generally how many classes are there in each level? Shall I take it that '1A' is the 1st / best class? Are the students assigned to those classes based on their T-scores?? taking HMT, not taking HMT??

                    Tks!!
No, Only HCL pupils will go to HCL classes. They will be mixed randomly.

I'd never thought that my hubby and I have to go through this experience which is full of anguish not only for us parents but also our DD.

My DD who's from a top Primary School and having a T-Score of 233+3 (HMT) was NOT offered a place in any of the 6 opted Sec schools but got posted to a neighbourhood Secondary school who's COP was 188.

What happened after the PSLE Posting results on 21st of Dec 2011 was a nightmarish experience for both my hubby and I - a seemingly never ending frenzy of going to-and-fro to our opted schools to send in appeals (NYGH, Chung Cheng, Nan Chiau, TKGS etc etc since DD is just 1-2 marks shy of COP for some of these schools).

I counted in total about 20+ trips made over 7 working days - only to be greeted with disappointing replies one after another the schools are inundated with appeals, some with 140 appeals fighting for about 10 seats - like in the case of Chung Cheng High Main - so therefore no hope of getting successful in the appeals.

You asked me how could this have happened for someone who's results ranks top 25-30% of the entire P6 student cohort in 2011? Well, sad to say, it's because I'd been too trusting and believe the advice given by the principal- to put the affiliated secondary school as the first choice. Had I not done this, and put Nan Chiau as my first choice, my DD would be able to get in to Nan Chiau Secondary School with 233+3 score. Mind you, before I put in the options form, I also sought advice from the school principal of the affiliated Secondary school and similarly I was asked to put up an appeal.

The appeal cost $20. I thought she stood a chance for getting enrolled in this dream school, but what followed was exhausting trips to the school to submit appeal forms/supporting documents, personally turning up to check on status, anguish of waiting for the results, and when I finally got a chance to meet up with the principal, I was told that there is absolutely no chance for my DD to get enrolled at all, as there was a total of 30+ students who scored 26x and were still denied entry into the school. :stompfeet: Only 2 seats offered out of 10 over interviews granted. So even if there were dropouts somwhere along the way, no way my DD will be high on the waiting list. :stupid: :stupid:

As I looked back on the whole episode, I cannot stop myself from wondering, and blaming myself of course, why then was I advised to put in an appeal to get into this top Sec school in the first place when there was absolutely no chance at all? Is there something that more than meets the eyes here? Paying for the appeal fees is nothing, but going through all the hassle and anguish, and in the end with no positive result for my DD and risk loosing the opportunity to enroll my DD in a relatively \"good\" school is something which I as a mother could not forgive myself. At the end of it all, the lessons learnt is never be too trusting what you were told by the school, even if it is coming from the Principal. I'm very sad that I have to say this. Of course I'd myself to blame for not making enough preparatory work way before this 2011 PSLE thingy.

I hope that none of you out there will one day end up to be in my position.

Sorry to hear of the terrible experience!!! Are you still waiting for appeal results from any school?

If not successful in any appeal, take heart that your dd probably might do really well in the school she's posted to. My ds' classmate was with him in an IP school in Sec 1 last year, but hated the programme. He applied to be transferred to a neighbourhood school for Sec 2 and became the top student. Our ds' school principal also said that of his own son who went to a neighbourhood school(and they decided not to use his principal's status to appeal) - his son found it very easy to cope with studies and had great fun with CCA and took up leadership positions and had many opportunities given to him which he probably wouldn't have had if he was in a much more popular school. His son then shone and did well in both O & A levels and doing a very popular degree course now.
