2011 PSLE - Appeal for Sec School
-
So glad to hear your gal has gotten into a sch which can develop her potential. I think dream / not dream sch, the kid need to know this is reality, and as long as they are motivated to learn, they will find the positive aspects of their reality and develop well along the journey!

Hi unlucky or lucky, I’m happy to hear that your dd got into a school that will help maximize her potential.

UnLuckyOrLucky:
:congrats: you were able to successfully appeal to a school which ur dd likes. Best wishesDear all,
Thank you all for your encouragement and suggestions.
I think everything that could possibly go wrong with my DD's S1's posting go wrong due to this year's combination of peculiar situations:
- I did choose 2-3 schools which has COP 2-3 points lower than my DD's T-Score, as shown in previous year, but they are went up this year, some by 2-3 marks. As I'd already said, I'd partly to blame for not doing enough preparatory work.
- Some of the schools we approached said very few transfers out this year, very unlike last year, because those who are already enrolled in DSA can't be transferred out like in previous years but locked in, so this had an impact on the success rate of those who appealed for the school of choice of course.
- No, I'm not blaming the Principal. I think I'll be in a difficult position if I were him/her. But what I'm saying is, if there is absolutely no hope of getting into the school right at the start, then just say so and don't get us to put in an appeal and let us hold on to some hope when there is none. And also to convey that one ought to use one's own discretion instead at the end of the day. Call me a fool if you may at the end of the day.
Anyway, in the end my girl didn't get into her dream school but into one where I believe she can carve a niche for herself in her strong areas. So in a sense I still feel that I'm lucky despite all these harrowing experiences
Life is a long journey. As I read somewhere, 人生是长跑, 孩子要慢胜。 I'm enlightened now and would like to end this. Thank you all once again. -

Dear unluckyorlucky, I fully empathise with you and I believe many parents will be sorry to learn of your circumstance. Please do not blame yourself as I believe you set off with a good intention for your child and I am sure your child will one day, if not now, appreciate your devotion and this will spur her to achieve higher height in future.

Yes, priority is always given to affiliated students for all schools and the cut off point can be more than 20 points-40 points different as compared to non- affiliated students. So it is really good to get Primary sch with affiliated Sec sch. They will give priority to affiliated students from MSHS Pri, I got 223 when the COP for affiliated was 225 in PSLE 2009, I appealed and I got received the call saying I was successful just 2 HOURS later. I know of friends(non-affiliated) who got 230 or 231 and yet didn't get accepted even if it was one of their six choices.
On a side note, I'm doing well now and went to the best class in Sec 3. Contrary to popular belief, PSLE does not mean anything at all. Classmates with 240+ ended up in the worst class.
I also agree with you that PSLE score does not mean anything at all. With good score, you get to a better Sec sch but not necessary do well in Sec sch. I have seen too many cases like this. -
May I know how we should write our appeal letter?

May I know how I am supposed to appeal into Nan Hua?
