No use sweating...my son is still so cool...it's as if he is in P1 this year and not P6 :slapshead: Today is a free-n-easy day...just get to know who their teachers are.

Usually school will ramp up after CNY...so these 3 weeks may be a honeymoon period...after 24th Jan, I am very sure the teachers will go 5th gear. PSLE is no play-play.

OMG! :yikes: My DS teachers already told them today will have homework. Relax ends yesterday! :scared:

Well, I believe the teachers will give homework but dont know if they will go full swing now or after CNY (usually the case for the past 5 years). In any case, I would prefer teachers go full swing now than after CNY...or else it will be like 1st gear to 4th gear :nailbite:

        Hi Mummies,

        Good Morning šŸ™‚

If your kids are self-motivated, it's good to go without tuition.
Even if results fall slightly, these kids will know how to manage and work harder to swim up again. Parents with self-motivated kids can be assured of that.

My son just brought his pencil case to school on his first day of school telling me that sure no lesson as being the first day. Little did he expected that the teachers were already started the ball rolling, came back with a few home works and told me that the teachers are already setting expectation for the class ( expect the kids to overtake the last top scorer in school).

Poor boy, I could sense the stress in him already ;(

Totally agree. My friend's kids were so self-motivated that they managed their studies well without attending to tuitions and no help from their mummy. Both kids scored above 26x in their psle (yr 2010 & 2011) and went on to RI & RGS respectively. I always envy her for being such a hands-off mum yet the kids can do so well. It all broils down to self motivation. Of course, we can't deny the fact that their primary school is also preparing them very well for the exam.

I feel that SUPPLEMENTARY lessons should not be teaching from syllabus but doing worksheets prepared by HODs/P6 teachers. Shouldn't this be the case ? :scratchhead:

Teachers are NOT teaching students how to answer questions for comprehension OE or cloze for eg...most schools just throw the worksheets to the kids. The exam papers of some schools are so 'impressive' with difficult compre passages beyond P6 standard. But are the kids taught how to handle ? No, the exam papers is to show other parents that the school standard is high. PERIOD.
              Totally agree !! :hi5:
Nowadays , most of the schools do tt , so the students hv to depand on their parents or tutors . If they come from poor families can't afford to hv tuition or their parents very busy , their future... :imdrowning:

                  Fat Mama:

DD will be taking PSLE this yr.

After reading all the posts here, I am getting worried. Are we too slack?

                  Need some advice.
DD is in a SAP school and in the top class. So far no tuition and she is scoring low 80s for EL, close to 90s for CL, Sci and 90+ for Maths.
All her classmates attend tuition and I am thinking of enrolling her for tuition.
Without tuition, I am afraid she might not be able to do as well as her peers.
Should I enrol her and let her study on her own???? :scratchhead: :scratchhead:

                  Hi Fat Mama,

Based on my dd PSLE experience, All schools, especially P6 top class, principals and top class teachers are worrier than you.

Do you believe that my dd school principal likes to pass Friday homework for all P6 students?

The top class students are suffered more than other classes. Expectation is higher than others and DIY more.

They will give all kinds of exam papers, homework, remedial class (including during March, June, September holidays - no such things holidays for P6 students).
Do you think, your child has time? :nailbite:

Since your child marks are 90+ in 3 subjects and 80 in English in P5, :yikes:
Please add 5 more marks in her P5 SA2 and P6 SA1. Then, you should ask yourself, \"do my child need a tuition\". The best thing, please ask her.

You may consider her English 1 to 1 home tuition if you are so worried.

All the best in her 2012 PSLE!

Hi, i think ur child is fine, scoring 80 plus to 90 plus, is good for a p5/6 standard. Dont overstress ur child.

My son told me teaching will officially start on Thur. He has yet to meet his EL and CL teachers...only know his FT will teach math and science.

His FT told the class that the p6 class under him last year scored 260 and above. :yikes: well, let's wait and see.

Although teaching/homework supposed to start from thur, FT has completed the topic on algebra already šŸ˜“ don't know if my son is worried to hear that, bcos I can anticipate teachers will go at breakneck speed.

My parents are also busy helping me especially this year...we will go over for meals and then back home to get revision done/tuition. It's really like a whole village getting my son thru psle :faint:

Wouldn't it be great if schools prepares our kids well in advance for PSLE (starting at P5)...and the other thing - giving our kids motivational talks to be self-motivated ??? That would be simply great !!! :imcool:

I salute the principal if he/she can do that. After all, that's the reason why our kids go to school right ? Not to attend school to listen to teachers delivering lessons and not teaching the know-how...leaving this big responsibility to US.

Learning should be fun. But parents are struggling to teach kids how to handle comprehension open-ended. Then have to search for tutors to coach our kids in math.
