Great! The threads have finally merged;)

DS came back with notice on the dates for CA1 already... The mad race has started!

I wish my son's school is this efficient :stompfeet: son seems to be very tired after school (only the first week)...even after a hot shower and lunch. If need be, I really need to consider taking him out of suppl.

Yesterday was a long day for my DS (the school ends at 3pm on every Thursday). He came back hungry and tired. After changing, he just dozed off in the sofa and started snoring too. I could imagine how tired he was! He is still trying to adjust back to the school routine πŸ˜‰

This whole week are long days for DD, 4.30pm. Cos she has to buddy P1 kids.

From the 1st day of day, everyday must do 5 pages of A* maths and some other homework.

Form Teacher told them if they want to score very high for PSLE, they must work very hard and do extra work and cannot only depend on school teacher alone. Does that mean we have to enroll for tuition if want to score very high for PSLE?

            Hi mother 777

I am severly IT challenged :(.

I copied the below from the link I provided but the pics of the books are not showing up; anyway, the 2 books relevant for Situational Writing are called P6 - Writing & P6 PSLE Preparation. The below text describes the contents of these books.

            P6 Writing
            http://i41.tinypic.com/25k7v61.jpg\">
A comprehensive text to help you with all your writing requirements for PSLE. This is not an assessment book although exercises are provided. It gives comprehensive instruction and ideas to pupils who want to write better essays. The book covers both continuous and situational writing and takes pupils from writing at the word, sentence, and paragraph level to planning at the text level. Rubrics for self-evaluation are given and a section on text types can also be found in the situational writing section.

            P6 PSLE Preparation
            http://i42.tinypic.com/2uyozz5.jpg\">

Doing some last minute revision? This PSLE Preparation book gives students concise and effective tips to help them through the final revision period. Topics in the book cover comprehension, writing, oral communication, listening and a section on exercising your mind. Trial examination papers are included.

I actually bought most of the series for my own education [but not grammar and vocab] and found them useful reads for the parents.

            Hope this helps πŸ™‚

            Hi psle2011mum,
            Are the above pictures correct?

Are these books available in popular? πŸ˜„

            Thanks for sharing πŸ˜„

No use sweating...my son is still so cool...it's as if he is in P1 this year and not P6 :slapshead: Today is a free-n-easy day...just get to know who their teachers are.

Usually school will ramp up after CNY...so these 3 weeks may be a honeymoon period...after 24th Jan, I am very sure the teachers will go 5th gear. PSLE is no play-play.
 Wow! no lesson, I thought that there won't be any lesson for my ds but his teacher has started to teach Algebra on 1st day itself. Furthermore change of teacher, this year it is a strict male teacher which will be good for my ds who is always so cool.

                re: friction pen
I remember reading a thread last year that a parent tested the friction pen and the ink faded under heat. Do a search. I rather not take the risk.

I am againt the friction pen too. I told my ds it's ok to use for your normal work but not for exam papers.

                    Hi Kitty2

As to your query about the Oxford Essentials series - back in the days when I was still buying assessment books by the ton, they did sell them at Popular and since then, I have seen them off and on at some Popular stores, but other parents tell me that it’s not readily available except through the below link - there is a number for an entity called \"Creative Steps\" at this link where you can make enquiries as to how to purchase if you are interested; alternatively you can contact the author through her blog and I'm sure she'll direct you where to purchase her books. πŸ™‚

                        Hi tclhub

                        You are very welcome.

Just my 2 cents worth on a book for English Compre Practice - DD did not use any commercial resources [not even the ones under the Oxford Essentials series which had questions as we bought those more to educate me than for DD to attempt] but found the Past year papers from other schools useful for practice.

Hope this helps and all the best to you and DD this year πŸ™‚
