Haha. Your DS still adjusting to the school :-). I am glad that the principal is going to look into the problem. Will try to call her today or tomorrow. Thanks for the input. Did she mention that she was already aware of this as other parents have feedback?
Got to know that it was not the principal who sent my son home, it was the bus operator....my son told me principal... :roll:Ivy Ang Siow Kia:
Hi rejoice,

Hi rejoice,
Hi Astee adn Bluebellas,Astee Foo:
Hi Bluebella,
I met one of my girl classmate's mom and she told me her son had the same issue on day 1 when all the food was sold out and the stall that had food was having long Q, so her son went without lunch. He is in P4,same as my girl.
I think the canteen vendors didn't expect the huge demand and thus resulted to the shortage. So it will be good for parents to feedback to the school and they can informed the vendors.
Let me know if you need help to bring lunch to your son, i have been delivering lunches to my children for the last 2 days. (P2 & P4).
I was hoping the school can arranged for catered lunches....
cheers,
astee
Sigh, with nearly half of the school kids having lunch together, I really wonder how the small canteen can handle such a big load. We should call up the Principal to feedback on this.
I like Astee's idea of catered lunch. May be give the students a choice of either catered lunch or buy food from the canteen vendors. That way, the crowd will be lessen and the canteen vendors still have business. Since I work daily, I have to get up very early each day to prepare lunch for my DS. Kind of hard to pack lunch in the early morning that stay fresh till the noon time
. I use thermal food jar and can only pack 1-dish meal. I think I am gonna run out of idea on what to pack by next week :scratchhead:
fyi, school is looking into the lunch break crowd very closely, they had even time the last students who queue for the food, hope the timing can be improve further. There will be a survey going on the food that the children eating, there will be some changes in the menu selling in the canteen or other possibly sources to ensure the children have a healthy meal.
Cheers,

Hi Tango,
Thanks. Given that this is the first week of school with the new timing, this kind of adjustment does take time. Glad that the school is monitoring closely. I am sure DS will be able to start buying lunch at school and have sufficient time to finish his meal :-).
Enjoy a great weekend. I am looking forward to a longer hour of sleep tonight. HEhehe. -

Hi Rejoice and Astee,Hi Bluebellas,
Sorry, somehow I did not see your message when replying to Ivy. Yes, my DS is in P2 and he managed to purchase the picture composition yesterday too. We went to school bookstore on 28 December and the store keeper told us the book was out of stock. Apparently they have restored when school open.
Oh dear, your DS did not have lunch for 2 days. Poor thing. I packed lunch for my DS these few days as he is a slow eater and take long time to decide what to eat. I know he is going to miss his lunch even during normal time. I think this is something to feedback to school since with most kids having lunch at school, the school canteen has to cater for it.
Is it possible for you to pack some snack or sandwich for your son for these few days until the school sort out the situation?
I will be packing sandwiches for my son. Thot to highlight to the school to request the canteen vendors to pack more food but since Tango mentioned the school is looking into this, there is no need for me to do that already.
Let's see what happens.
And thanks Astee, for your kind offer.

Hi Parents,
Itโs been enlightening reading all your posts about the school. I am considering registering my girl for this school and am hoping if you can confirm what are the school hours for the Primary 1 kiddos? I read about the change but am not sure how it affects the p1 coz somewhere along the thread, it was mentioned that not all kids stay so late.
Thank you in advance!! -

Welcome to the forum. Hope that you will find useful information here. The P1 schedule is quite similar to the rest of the level except for CCA since CCA is not compulsory for P1 kid. So here is the timing:
Recess Break: 9:45am to 10:15am
Lunch Break : 12:15pm to 12:45pm
Reporting time: 7:25am
Lesson starts: 7:45am
Dismissal Time: Mon - Wed, Fri: 2:15pm
Thurs: 12:15pm
CCA is on either day mostly from 2:30pm to 4 or 4:30pm.
Hope this helps. -
Hi Rejoice,
Thank you so much!! Your reply has been most helpful.
I have shortlisted Teck Ghee coz I like my kids to be in morning school. They can have the rest of the day to play and do other activities. And the family can have some quality family time in the evenings and during the weekendsโฆ(Hope I am not being too idealistic here).
But would you or other parents happen to know the reason behind the extended hours? Where is the value-add? Do they have longer sessions in class or rest time?
Thank you once again!! -
Hi Ching,
Welcome to the TGPS Forum. I will help Rejoice on this question and shared what i know. This year, 2012, TGPS introduced the PAL (Programme for Active Learning) initiated by MOE. If you go to MOE site, you will know more about the programme. As such, this programme integrated into the normal school curriculum and thus extended the school hours.
http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2009/04/government-accepts-recommendat.php
The change in school hours is to allow seamless mapping of revised teaching curriculum and teaching strategies. Also for children whom are taking CCA, it minimise the waiting time and the extra logistic required for helper to fetch to and back school/CCA.
Hope this answer your question and we look forward to welcome your child to TGPS Family.
Cheers,
Astee
