Kindergarten that prepares child well for Primary 1

Hello all


I am very concern of which nursery, kindergarten actually prepares a child well for primary 1. I was told that some church kindergarten does not prepare a child well for primary 1. I was also told that those good preschool are pat school house, chiltern house, eaton house… which you actually have to pay premium for their school fees. Whereby Nanyang kindergarten, St James kindergarten and Nafa kindergarten have a long waiting list which is impossible to get my child in.

Can anyone please share some light what should I do ? I am so loss.

How about Kinderland? I find children learn more here than St. James.

From my personal experience, normal PCF kindergarten (at least for the one my boy is attending right now) does not prepare the kid well academically (although socially i think it does a great work).
My nephew who is in Cambridge Childcare, has spelling and tingxie in sentences and I seen their math worksheets before - it is definitely more advanced than the PCF one that my boy is attending and close to P1 standard (for that ‘chapter’ in the worksheet).

My girl attended PAP previously & now attending a church kindergarten


Kindergartens are good for socialising. The child learns how to take turns & listen to instructions

I feel that, academically, both kindergartens do not prepare the child for P1 sufficiently. Still need to send her to enrichment classes

My girl is in Nursery and from NAFA. I have gone round to many kindergartens to check if their curriculum actually prepare children for P1. my findings...depends on which primary school you have selected for your child. I've talked with some parents from NAFA...some say more than sufficient, while others said no...

I'm also scared to death if my child is ready for P1...went to check further with some of friends teaching in primary school...some schools use the MOE text books...some don't. Generally all children going to P1 must be able to read and write with understand like doing some journal writing..

I then went to MOE's website and have a look at the P1's syl. quiet relieved...at least when she graduate from NAFA...should be able to cope...(then again if I want to send her to SCGS, i will need to coach her more..)

My friends said I'm kiasu but just want to ensure that my children (another on the way) have the best...(mother's stress!!).

My friends are right...parents still need to coach and spend time to reinfroce whatever the child learned in school.
