I know, but for CO, it's all immersion, not competition. Actually Pri CO always goes together with Sec CO, so the Pri mbrs are nv the focus there. And over the years, they've been to Beijing, Shanghai, Japan, Korea, Taiwan...but my son has never gone lah. -
DD was in performing arts and the Pri school had Gold with honors in the last SYF, but no trips...nothing.
Your children are so lucky to have been given that exposure.
At least the opportunities are there, whether or not you choose to take it up.

Usually primary groups don't hv that much trips. It's the secondary school kids that have more. eg. in our boys' school, The chinese orchestra (primary) had trips only bc they just \"tom pang\" with the secondary big boys. Dance also has similar group in secondary. So does Band. But strings don't have counterpart in secondary school so no chance to even \"tom pang\".DD was in performing arts and the Pri school had Gold with honors in the last SYF, but no trips...nothing.

DD's school has no affiliation...so cannot \"tom pang\".

My DD was in her neighbour pri sch Aungklong group, and they went to Korea. We paid 1K++ (partly using edusave) too after subsidy. The other groups in her school also went to various countries. Looks like it's getting more common nowadays.

As far as I know, choir, band and most performance arts groups get to go. But really expensive leh. My girls went to Spain last year, $4k each, I thought it was too expensive. Sure they won some first prize in some choir competition, but from what I heard, kinda funny. They were so serious and practiced like crazy, other Europeans were there to have fun and play.
So I wonder whether it was more worth it to enjoy the trip and have more fun or go all out to win. My son also went to US with Odyssey of the Mind and won something there. Other kids were busy exchanging pins, they were locked up rehearsing by their teachers. When they have won and wanted to exchange the pins, nobody wanted to exchange anymore because other kids had what they wanted.
I believe going overseas should be more than just achieving golds and goals, kids should have the chance to interact and learn some social and cultural stuff as well. Not everything needs to be so orchestrated.
