Teck Ghee Primary

Hi Ching,Hi Parents,
It's been enlightening reading all your posts about the school. I am considering registering my girl for this school and am hoping if you can confirm what are the school hours for the Primary 1 kiddos? I read about the change but am not sure how it affects the p1 coz somewhere along the thread, it was mentioned that not all kids stay so late.
Thank you in advance!!
Welcome to the forum. Hope that you will find useful information here. The P1 schedule is quite similar to the rest of the level except for CCA since CCA is not compulsory for P1 kid. So here is the timing:
Recess Break: 9:45am to 10:15am
Lunch Break : 12:15pm to 12:45pm
Reporting time: 7:25am
Lesson starts: 7:45am
Dismissal Time: Mon - Wed, Fri: 2:15pm
Thurs: 12:15pm
CCA is on either day mostly from 2:30pm to 4 or 4:30pm.
Hope this helps. -
Hi Rejoice,
Thank you so much!! Your reply has been most helpful.
I have shortlisted Teck Ghee coz I like my kids to be in morning school. They can have the rest of the day to play and do other activities. And the family can have some quality family time in the evenings and during the weekends…(Hope I am not being too idealistic here).
But would you or other parents happen to know the reason behind the extended hours? Where is the value-add? Do they have longer sessions in class or rest time?
Thank you once again!! -
Hi Ching,
Welcome to the TGPS Forum. I will help Rejoice on this question and shared what i know. This year, 2012, TGPS introduced the PAL (Programme for Active Learning) initiated by MOE. If you go to MOE site, you will know more about the programme. As such, this programme integrated into the normal school curriculum and thus extended the school hours.
http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2009/04/government-accepts-recommendat.php
The change in school hours is to allow seamless mapping of revised teaching curriculum and teaching strategies. Also for children whom are taking CCA, it minimise the waiting time and the extra logistic required for helper to fetch to and back school/CCA.
Hope this answer your question and we look forward to welcome your child to TGPS Family.
Cheers,
Astee -
Hi Astee,
Thank you!! I will read up on the program you mentioned.
We are due for the 2012 registration exercise so, gotta kick start the KS engine.
Thank you all and a Happy New Year!! -
Hi all,
we are living within 1 km of Teck Ghee and due for 2012 registration too. How will we know when Teck Ghee is holding it’s opening day for prospective students? TIA… -
Hi Tanglin,
Welcome to TGPS Forum and glad to hear you are considering TGPS for your child/children.
TGPS Open House usually takes place in July, if my memory did not fail me..
The school will put up banner by the main gate A and B to indicate the open house date/time.
Beside this open house, TGPS also host community events - Lantern Festival and PFC Sports Day event, which allows parents/children to visit the school.
Of course, the open house event will suit you and your child most as the Principal/Teachers/Staff will be onsite to answer your queries.
Hope this helps and looking forward to hearing from you on the forum.
Cheers,

Everyone on this thread is so helpful and friendly that I thought I would say hi as well. I live within 1km of Teck Ghee and right now debating whether to register my twins at TG or Kuo Chuan which is 1-2km fr our home. All my friends are telling me to try ballot for Kuo Chuan but I like what I've seen on TG's website - my kids love art and craft.
Has anyone faced the same problem? If so, can you pls share why you chose TG?
Will the school allow us to pay a visit before the open house? Anyone knows their policy on twins - separate class or not?
:thankyou: -
Hi HolidayQ,
Nice nick and it makes me feel like holidaying again...
Welcome to the forum and indeed most of the parents here are helpful and friendly and we are like one BIG family, growing each and everyday.
I guess if you cannot make it for the open house event, you can ask the school for special permission to do a site visit with your twins.
I have 2 children in TGPS (P4/P2),the reason why i chose TGPS is simple - vincity and its single session operating hours. I live within 1km of the school and i am the main person taking care of their afterschool needs, so vincity was my top consideration. Also having read about TGPS passed academic/non-academic achievements, i was confident it will provide my children with the right value and teaching that will carry them far in life.
Visit both the shortlisted schools and talk to the school principals and staff, i believe you will be able to draw a picture in your mind for your twins. That was what some parents had done and finally decided on TG.
I had seen twins in the school but not sure for P1, will they be assigned to same class.
Good Luck to your preparation for your twins into the Primary School Journey and no matter which school you chose for them, we know its the right one for them.
ps: sorry to hog the thread... :imsorry:
Cheers,

Hi Ching and holidayQ,
Sorry for late reply. Single session is one of the main reasons I chose TGPS. Similar to holidayQ, I live within 1km of TGPS and 1-2km of KC. Townsville is also near to my place. But out of these three schools, only TGPS is single session (there is another school that is just within a stone throw from my house is unfortunately too competitive for us to get in). I also believe having the rest of day off and have quality time with the family in the evening is more important for us. Also, I like what I saw and heard about TGPS so it is easy for us to make the choice.
So far DS has enjoyed his school days at TG so I am glad I make the right choice for him :rahrah: . I agree with Astee's advice: go visit the school and talk to the teachers and principal there and you will know the right choice.
Good luck to you all comes this July and August. -
Hi Astee and rejoice137,
Thanks for your reassuring feedback and kind advice. I'm becoming more and more convinced that TG is the right choice. Will definitely contact the schools for a visit.
I also prefer morning session but worried about the kids having to eat lunch in school almost everyday. Just thinking about what to pack in their lunch boxes is making me
rejoice137, we could be neighbours
