Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
Hi all
I’ve been searching the school information high and low for Marymount Convent Primary School it seem that not many know about this school.
The only infor I got from a convent friend that the school is strong in English, Music and Character Building. Even is not a SAP school the percentage of students are Chinese. Not sure if is true or not.
But how about the school academic? Based on last year PSLE they did quite well.
One thing I’ve a good impression about this sch. The staffs are very friendly when I called the school to check regarding PV work. Unfortunately I cannot make it becos of my work commitment.
Please share if you know the school well. I intend to register my girl next year. Thanks. -

Hi. I am comparing the pri schools. thinking of a pri sch for my boy. I am concerned about the academic achievements of both sch. Of course, having quality non-academic programmes are impt. But I lack info on the academic area. Curious about the AVERAGE T score of the schools. The ones they have are the highest scorers. Not really interested in that. Average T score will be a better indicator. Anyone can help to provide any info or insight?

There is a Parent Networking Forum here with a thread for each sch. Maybe you can go there and post your queries instead and get some responses from parents of children who are already in those schs? -

Where did you put your child eventually?[Moderator's note: Topics merged.]
Hi,
I am a old boy of Nan Hua and I really want to put my daughter there but I am currently living with my in laws in Tampines which is within 1km of St. Hilda's. I also have a choice in putting her in Kong Hwa as my registered address is also within 1km of Kong Hwa. Even though both St. Hilda and Kong Hwa is within 1km of my In Laws and my own place, I am afraid that even with PV I might not even get a place in phase 2B as both are very hot schools. PV is not even 100% even if I apply for one.
My safest choice is my old school Nan Hua, not because I am an old boy but judging from the academic results, NHP beats both St. Hilda and KH hands down in terms of overall cohort academic performance which has been consistent for the past 10 yrs.
But the problem is that I am living in Tampines and the school is in Clementi. Is the distance a major detrimental factor and I also not so sure if any private school bus will ferry her to and fro Tampines and Clementi.
Can anyone advise? -
We stay at tampines and is within 1 km frm Eastspring pri. My hubby was an old boy of Mee Toh Pri but we hoped to put our kids in either Pei Chun or Aitong. Furthermore, Mee Toh is at Ponggol, location seems to be quite out of the way..thinking of moving to Toa Payoh but flats there not new and is expensive..my parents stay at bishan but is 1-2 km away frm Aitong.. Heard stay within 1km also need to do PV in Eastspring Pri..
Can anyone advise..shd we move to Toa Payoh for Pei Chun and at the expense of expensive flats there? My child born in 2006..Gan cheong now as need time to get ready for all the diff issues...

If moving for the pri school, is there a guarantee that your child will get in?
Will you move again for sec school?
It really depends on individual. Some parents will go to the extend of renting or moving in order to get into a choice school.
So you really have to weigh the pros and cons.
My friend has always stay in the far east. When her daughter has to change school to NYPS for GEP, she choose to send her there without moving. Now her daughter is in NYGS, she is still sending her daughter to school everyday.
So there are many ways to find an answer to your question.
But of course if you have a second child, that child will be admitted automatically if you decide that your two children go to the same school.
So again, there are many factors to consider. -

Moving to Toa Payoh would not confirm a place in Ai Tong or Pei Chun unless you have a place in PV for ATS & PC. Looking at it the most safer bet is Mee Toh School since your hubby is an old boy. -
Staying within 1 km of Ai Tong will not gurantee you a place in P1 Registration… You will be disappointment if you do move there and can’t get into AI…
If die die you really want to get to AI TOng please register and be a member of the Hokkien Huay Guan…
I tink the safer choice would be Mee Toh too.
