Ikea is cheap and more convenient, they have very ‘smart’ furnitures… haha.

hi smartmummy,
generally if you get customized wardrobe, my feel is that it will fit in better with your existing furniture but the price may be very much more - and sometimes quality not there (depends on contractor).
If you decide to get a wardrobe, think hard about the doors you want. sliding doors used to be very popular. but I heard of a friend. he got the sliding door type. unfortunately, he placed a lot of things on top of the wardrobe. needless to say, after a while, the door couldn’t slide properly.
Though I’m sure you have heard much about ikea (good/bad), I was told that some series of their sofas are very lasting (even with fat family members).
I see from your list some places I would avoid like xiao - will pm you later on that. not so polite to list in forum. -
@hquek
I will be very interested to know what places to avoid.
PM the list to me please! -

Am in the midst of getting a new sofa.
And agree with you that some of Ikea's sofa models last. I have one that is still in a good condition after 10 years!!!! Its the klippan if my memory serves me right. As opposed to the Natuzzi leather that we bought barely 5 years ago. -
Thanks to all! really appreciate!

btw, one understated brand is Seahorse. Their mattress can be hard like cement but I used their furniture before - not bad leh, plus it is not that ex.
My mum bought a half leather (meaning part pure leather, part pvc) sofa (those comfy looking types) for 600+ (3seater +1 armchair) 10 years ago. It lasted really long despite the abuse. toward the end, the seat sort of sagged a bit, but I think it’s value for money.
we also bought a bedside table. nothing fancy but it was very very cheap becos contractor quoted us double/triple the amount for the same design - the materials likely will be better by contractor but for bedside table, mdf board was good enough. -
I bought cheap and good cabinets from this neighbourhood shop - Dekia Furnishing at AMK. They don’t display much but they have catalogues and the delivery is free.
Fave shops include VHive for more solid furniture (TV console, dining table, chairs etc) and Ikea for non-essential items. -

Never bought Ikea sofa before, so can't comment.

But for Ikea stuff, it really depends.
We bought a Billy bookcase when we first moved into our current home, so we are talking about close to 9 years. The bookcase is still sturdy as a rock.
Seeing it's good value, we bought another Billy for DD as her book collection grew. This time it was a commemorative edition for dunno-how-many-years-of-billy with cute design, and at a discount.
Within a year, the bookcase warped beyond recognition.
Complained to Ikea, showing them photos of the 2 Billy's. Found out that the commemorative edition was supplied by some other supplier. Thank goodness Ikea offered to replace it if we topped up the difference between the regular price and discount price. We took the offer, but we made sure we got one that was manufactured by the same supplier as our first Billy.
The second Billy has been with us for 3 years now. Still looking good.
