I am not really sure that students bus fare is not more than adults, sand even if it is so, students form the back bone of their business, they should not take advantage of student, our children like that

Well; if govt mandates that school starts at 8.00am or 8.30am and mandates school gates only opens at 7.30am or 8am then the school bus operator cannot pick our girls early and drop them off outside school gates right?

That way maybe pick factory worker first then students. International school starts at 8.30am.

Orh. I would love for school to start later. That way kids won't have to be up at like some god forsaken hour.

parents, one of MOE's impetus for all primary schools going single session in 2016 is this that the schools are then able to start later than the current 7.40am.

        Let's hope it works.

When is the CNY celebration for RGPS?

          20.01.12

Is this celebration a full day event?
This is from the calendar of activities which we received today. No details yet. Should be out soon.
Letter out today. First hour at school hall then lessons as usual. Gals can come in their ethnic costumes but no headgear. School shoes still apply.

If the school starts at 8.30am; then children’s school bus picks at 7.30am versus 6.30am; thereafter parents can leave for work still in time for 8.30am work right?

My daughter is in the afternoon and I have to make sure she has things to dork etc… so I am not punctual but because my boss knows I hardly go on long lunch or tea break and as such they are ok for 10 - 15 mins late in the morning.
So much for pro child policy. In view of the abundant wealth the govt say we have; they can also subsidise the transport for children and give incentives to transport companies so that the companies still make as much ferrying school children. Afterall, our children are the future of Singapore and it will at least let our children feel that our govt do care for our well being and thus will be more patriotic or maybe we are not important if we cannot bring money, fame and honour to the country. Just "import" talent when needed … no neccessity to nurture and cultivate our own talent as it is not cost effective.

              Absolutely agree with Freesia,

Think this Govt dun even know what is more important, so what if you have good teachers or good school, the children go to school half awake because bus operators dictate the timing and no one cares

No wonder birthdate go lower and lower, those that can’t provide own transport for their children is at the mercy of profiteering bus operators

Its been 5 years since my girl has taken the school bus, when she started morning classes in P3, she has to wake up at 5.30am and her bus comes at 5.55am, well im most unhappy with this timing and the only alternative is to drive her myself but the traffic there after 6.40 is rather heavy and my girl fears being late. , now in p6, its still a challenge waking up so early but the only way to beat the heavy traffic for the school buses is to reach by 6.45… all the buses are suppose to reach school by 6.45 or they will answer to the school as all the kids will b late… Anyway, today my girl still dislike getting up at 5.30am but has grown to accept it without any complains now.

Hi moonee, I think you got "mis informed" by the sch bus operator just like me, the sch actually requires the bus to arrive between6.45 am and 7.10 am, not before 6.45.

So for all these years everyday your child and the rest wasted between 10 to 20 mins each day, that is a lot of time if you look at the whole year

If all children can spend the extra time reading or sleeping, it’s more concentration in class, the real lost to all the children!

Just to share my personal experience: My school bus operator told me the following:

                    - They have to reach the school by 6.40am
                    - CCA bus fare is $30, max of 2 trips per week

Are the above guidelines the SOP? I do not think so. In fact, I called the school bus coordinator, he stated very clearly that the CCA bus fare is $20 with no cap on number of trips, but the school bus operator still insisted on $30, so what can I do? Either take it or leave it right? Do I have a choice?

Also, my girl’s upper primary bus friends told her that last year the school bus uncle picked up an aunty (for picking up kindy kids later) along the way in them morning where the guidelines clearly stated that no adult is to be picked up along the way. That’s also 1 reason why the bus needs to come so early, for fetching the kindy kids later. The school bus coordinator said that it’s the individual operator’s prerogative to do all this…

As parents, especially long distance parents, when we paid so much bus fare (mine borders on $250 after adding in CCA fare), and yet have to put up with so much nonsense, is there much alternative??

Wondering what is the channel in which parents can voice all these grievances? The school’s Operation Manager? it seems that the coordinator might not be able to do much…

mwchua, the CCA bus fare is stated clearly in the memo as $20 and there was no mention on the number of times you can take the bus. Think you may want to insist that the school bus company settle this with the driver and give you a confirmation. At the same time, you may want to let the school’s ops manager know about this issue that you are facing.

                        hi Funz,

There is no memo being given to me. I only receive the CCA bus enrolment form.

Can you kindly help to scan a copy of the memo and pm to me if possible? To be frank, I really don’t like to "shi4 puo4 lian3" with the school bus as ultimately our girl is taking the bus from them.

                        Thanks.
