my maid contacted tuberculosis
-
I think TB is common now. I had 2 colleagues - SINGAPOREAN, got TB.
-
Yes, reported in the news, its coming back… prevention is better than cure!
-
Through S’pore’s immunisation programme (remember the nurses go to sch to jab us, and before that she got to burn the needle?), TB is under control for many years.
Due to globalisation & immigration, a lot of people from other countries, which may not have stringent immunisation programmes, are susceptible to the TB. Hence there may be a lot of subclinical cases of TB, which became full blown TB, when the person come into S’pore. -
My mum’s friend’s Phil maid developed TB. and the grandma and grandson kena a bit, they had to take months of antibiotics and also go to TTSH for regular checks before given all clear.
So yes, no one nationality. and it’s very lecheh (in addition to the fear spread). -
For maid working in their 3rd year or so , MOM requires Chest X-ray screening for TB ,besides the usual blood test, for the renewal of maid medical examination.

Yap. Few of my colleagues have to take 1/2 yr antibotic. And the side effect for this antibotic is it may cause liver problem. My mum's friend's Phil maid developed TB. and the grandma and grandson kena a bit, they had to take months of antibiotics and also go to TTSH for regular checks before given all clear.
So yes, no one nationality. and it's very lecheh (in addition to the fear spread).
The doctor also said that this antibotic will only clear the virus for this time round only. \"If\" in future, they get the TB virus again, there will be no antibotic for them to eat liao. :yikes: I feel this is the scary part!!!!!! :scared: -
Oh dear. I didn’t know it’s so scary. Gulp. Worse thing is that the virus may be lying dormant when the maid first arrives

You need to send her back immediately and check up your family…

LOLMum:
aids is treatable but there is no cure for it. pp dont really care if you have tb but if you have aids, that's another story - definitely not a nice one.
suay suay the husband/son sleeps with maid................ :yikes:
:offtopic:
Nah. If the son/husband is properly vaccinated against tuberculosis, they wouldn't contract tuberculosis from the maid even if they have close contact with each other.
After your maid is treated of TB, I suggest you get her vaccinated against it.
Maybe the medical facilities in your maid's country is too poor, your maid did not go for the proper vaccination.
By right more than 90% of Singaporeans are vaccinated against TB, especially those children where they go to school and they have the nurses from the Medical Health Board to come and vaccinate them for free.
