Can a student still take up MSP in the school without taking RSP ? -
ngbrdad:
Yes, if there are still vacancies. ACS(I) is an MSP centre. But I guess you should go ask ASAP, because it's one of those things normally applied for after release of PSLE results. Thanks but the form is for RSP not MSP.

At first we thought DS will be busy with 2 CCA including uniform group etc and we did not let him take up HMT and 3rd language. But since he is in express track at the moment and there is no extra curriculum for GE , so he appears to be quite free.

Hence my wife and I am thinking of asking him to take MSP but must get him to agree to the idea first. -

A pass would let him minus 2 points from L1R5 points if he's taking O levels eventually. I am beginning to see why everybody takes HCL in secondary Sch express after the O level results release. But then again, I guess if he manages to go to ACSI IP by end Year 2, he may not need these HMT bonus points. MSP is good but in your DS sch, would this subject be an additional subject counted towards his aggregate or a subject which can be used to replace another subject like what RI allows? -
Well, my personal opinion is that there are two main ways to get into the IBDP and thrive. First, you can whack everything in sight and have a really busy life; second, you can just learn to be good at 6-7 subjects and manage your time well. The first kind of person often thinks that you can divide the world into arts types and science types; the second knows that the skills are all the same.
It's the second type that will always have a job, because that type has figured out the underlying structure of information and can literally create new forms of work. The first type is either always working for someone else or is not satisfied with life and doesn't know why.
This is just my 2c's worth based on my 20 years as an educator, having just reached the stage at which my former students are starting to offer me freelance jobs.

Hi autolycus,
My ds is in express. What is the criteria for gaining entry to ib in yr 2? Does Malay/3rd language count towards one of the subjects? Does he need to still take hast test? If so how to prepare? -
Snow Crystal:
We figure the 2 HMT bonus points will only come into effect if he wants to go to the 2 temples after O level. Or else he will have 2 extra bonus points for ACJC which is nearest for us.

Otherwise just concentrate his effort to aim for L1R5 of 6 for ACSI IB, or aiming for spectacular O results to enter the 2 temples after appeal. -

The normal entry points to the Integrated Programme (IP) are at Year 1 post-PSLE and Year 3 post-streaming. For entry to Year 3 IP, the proxy used is based mainly on the IBDP six-subject aggregate (Lit/Lang Arts, MT/other lang, a humanities subject, a science subject, mathematics and a sixth subject). No, a HAST is not required.Hi autolycus,

Generally, the optimal 'build' is to go for at least 6 subjects fitting this aggregate with each subject scoring 85% and above. These subjects may also determine the candidate's choice of subjects in subsequent years. -

Lit/Lang Arts same as English or needs to be lit ? 6th subject can be another science or humanities subject ?

How come some did take the HAST test for IP selection ?
