There are often two side of the coins on which is better. I have friends who attended ICR and said it works for their child and that their kids are able read independently. There is another group that said not much improvement. My son did not go for ICR or ICL until very recently into MA for short course to prepare for P1 next year. He attended at CC phonics class in K1 as kindergarten teacher said to β€˜boost’ his confidence in reading. He is also able read independently and are able to blend words, not all correct but at least he tries.

So it really depends on the chemistry between the kids and the teacher I think that matters.

            Hi,

Does anyone have any experiences with MMI Jurong East (Enrichment centre) for Phonics ? Could you kindly share your experiences on the teachers? I called them and there are only like 2 child for a new class starting next month. So , I was thinking was the low take-up rate has anything to do with the quality of teachers ? :?:

How about MMI-Maths - any comments?

                Hi jedamum,

Thanks, I have seen your comments. I am now sceptical about MMI-Maths and now not sure of which of the centre provides a good learning about pre-school maths. I saw mathshub is pretty good from the website but not sure if the real learning experience is what-you-see-is-what-you-get.....

                :stupid:

                  Hi ksunflower,

My aunt actually recommended MMI (JE) cos her son went thru and she found it good. So i decided to give it a try.

DD1 started the phonics classes at MMI (JE) last Jan and completed the course in Oct. The teacher then was good. Just few months into the course, the childcare teacher asked me what course my gal was attending. The childcare teacher noticed that DD1 suddenly seem to be able to read quite well. Upon completion of the course, DD1 can already read quite ok, considering she was just slightly past 4 years old then. 😎

This year, i started DD2 on the same course in Jul. Again, the childcare teacher feedback that significant improvement were observed after 2 months. DD2 is still in the course now.. ending in Apr next year.

However, i must say that, this time round, the new teacher is not as detailed as DD1's teacher. She didnt really go thru each lesson's details with the parents. Just tell us that the kids can understand , or those words kids not sure, she underline already. Maybe its 2nd time for me, so my expectations are different. 😐

I must also add that there is a teacher there that seem very dedicated cos i always hear her give very detailed briefings to the parents in the other class. :salute:

Regarding class size, i think the limit is 8. DD1's class was 8, DD2's class now is 6. Actually, the lesser the better, cos the kid gets more attention. I also know from some parents that there are also classes with 1 kid cos no one else signed up for the same class at that slot. So the parents say, very value for money :moneyflies:

                  hope this helps

if there is an option for trial, always go for it.
cos while the course may not suit my kid, if your kid absorbs better with hands-on practice, it may be worth a try. what i don't like is the penalty for early termination.

                      Hi,

I brought my son to MMI, Upper East Coast Road to inquired about Weekend Phonics and Math Class last week.

I had good impression about this centre but wanna to find out more for those who had tried its Phonics and Math classes. Care to share?

The fee is about $125 p.m. for phonics, 1:1-2 students.

I knew that most of the students are expatriate from India.

                        Hi Poohbear,

I am going to sign up for phonics class but not so sure for MMI-Maths. They do not have any maths class at the moment, perhaps due to the teachers.
Do you send your children for maths enrichment class?
