Hi KSP, i know how you feel, I will lose steam too if no support is gathered by parents.

If something is done wrong on first day, then no one change it, it carries on and on for years, does it mean the wrong will become right?

Yes we cannot do anything if we are alone, but we can ask for change if enough voice says we want something to be done.

This is not just for the children studying now, or children from the past looking to right some wrong, but if we do it, will benefit all children from now on, future generations!!!

This is the memo that I was referring to.

          Hope it helps.
This memo was NOT given to me. I was given only the registration form to fill up the student prticulars and which day to stay back for CCA.

          Thanks a lot!

I believe one of the main reasons for designated school buses is to control the traffic volume. However its is creating a monopoly which compromises our children’s welfare. Understand bus operators target to reach school earlier to make room for unforseen delays so that all pupils will not be late. If we can’t come up with solutions, let’s push for solutions.

There could be a few ways which we could improve the situation:

            1) Lobby with the Ps and MPs for a 8:30am start when RGPS goes into single session. I see no concerns about coinciding with morning peak traffic. One good reason is this timing will not compete with other schools’ regular earlier start. It’s nonsensical that the welfare of our children should revolve around the livelihood of the bus operators. There must be an alternative around it.
            2) Network with other parents who are using the same bus in your neighbourhood. Arrange for a private minibus/carpool if its allowed under school regulations.

It takes a concerted effort to make things happen. Suggest writing in as it seems to warrant more attention to issues in Singapore. Maybe use some of the pointers brought up here. Only when enough calls for change is felt, will they then reconsider the status quo.

Hi MummyStay, there is really alot can be done, but b cos no one is looking at it, now it is a big whole mess every morning!

If the toilet have only one loo, how long the queue will be? But if you increase to 10 loos, the queue will be cut by 10 folds.

it is so easy to give all school bus priority, that the bus can just drive right to the school, if you have the proper system in place.

But now i see every single car wants to drop their children off at the same place, so the queue is so long.

There are 3 schools but yet if you ask who is incharge of the combine traffic mess, you cannot find any body to be in charge, thus nothing is done.

Schools are seperate into primary, secondary and jcs, so all 3 schools talk to diff boss and under diff mgmt, but one MOE, but no one wants to be in-charge or be busy body, why do so much work but get same pay right 😉

first, primary school student get the highest priority, because youngest, oldest is JC, so no excuse for NJC students, parents to right with RGPS.

Primary school children walk the least, JC the most. NYGS should be give a extended long bus stop just for dropping students, not 2-3 lots but 10 lots, Bukit timah road have enough space and wide enough.

Draw out double white line and install CCTV along Bt Timah just before turn into RGPS, re-design RGPS entrance, which is like a snake (and slow down traffic), to give 10 drop off points on 2 side of the canteen.

Draw yellow box just before turning into Hillcrest for Bus ONLY to turn in and cut queue.

NJC cars will turn in from another route further down instead of jaming Hill crest.

Many more can be done, if someone gets civil servants to do it.

Let's put your persuasive letter writing skills for the better of our children.

We have only ourselves to blame if we don't do something to break this messy cycle.

I'll be addressing a formal letter of requests to the P tomorrow. Hope more will add voice to the cause too.

the long distance from home to sch is the root cause of the problem. U can’t expect the travelling time to be short if you are staying miles and miles away from the sch.

Hi Tania, I too dun believe in long distance sch, but some parents like me have no choice, my girl also used to study just less than 2 km from her school 😞

MOE have this 1 km or 2 km, rule for school P1 registration, but no such rule when it comes to school bus.

                        if MOE is really concern about distance, than they should have this rule;

Bus company can and ONLY use 14 seater or smaller bus capacity when fetching students more than 2 km should, this will
                        1) reduce the time spent by student spend on bus
                        2) increase bus fare but deter parents from sending child to school too far away
