      Fur-ma:

Qn about the Chinese spelling. DD says that for No. 6, the teacher told them to leave out the 2 dots above the \"u\" for purpose of the tingxie. I told her that must write in the dots when the \"u\" is alone but leave them out when another letter is placed beside it, e.g. yu (fish). Sorry. Hope I make sense.
      Hi Fur-ma,

If I recall, from dd's enrichment class, there was this 口诀 - \" j q x, 小淘气,看见u点就擦去\"。Not true that if there's a letter next to the 'u', then no need the 2 dots, coz some letters do form words with both the 'wu' and 'yu' sound, except j q and x.

I agree with zeemimi’s post above.

We probably need to adjust our expectations a little. What our children used to go through in kindy or childcare centre cannot be applied the same to the primary school. My colleague who sends her kids to neighbourhood school also told me to get used to the fact that there’s very little communication nowadays. At least it helps to know that i’m not alone.

Of course, i would be concerned about what’s happening in class and if dd remembered what she’s been asked by her teacher to do, etc. But I’ve taken the attitude that if its important, the teacher should be telling the parent, like thru her blog, which she does. If its relayed through my dd, it means there’s room for forgetfulness/not urgent? So far, Mrs Choy has not given me BIG surprises, so i’m cool. Like I asked about the character alive thingy here, and other classes already have info, but not mine, i take it that teacher din see the need to inform yet… so far i have not resorted to emailing her yet, unless its absolutely necc. I think we have to also put ourselves in their shoes sometimes, its really not easy being a teacher, handling students and parents!

That’s why its good to have a common space here for us to share info. Its really a good source to turn to! Just that we also have to manage how we feel after seeing what’s happening to other classes. We still have a long road ahead for their education journey!

Just my thoughts. No offences I hope.

              Hi all,

My dd is P1, Brillaince (1B)

Glad to hear from so many concern parents.

Any other IB parents out there can PM me. I would like to exchange mobile phone no. with you all. So that we can keep each other posted on our children activities in KC.

I still remember the 1st day sharing on parents net working... wow is powerful! Though I still come seems to decode some of characters after many rounds of moving the paper with sharing map. All look the same me. Ha ha :siao:

              😄

No offence taken n on the contrary, I appreciate all the comments n views. It is indeed good to adjust my expectations now that I know that the level of communication I m complaining about is the norm. I m tying to let go. Didn’t ask dd about hw yday but quietly ransacked her bag to check instead. Old habits die hard. Ha ha

Just to add in. Dd came home yday w a letter from the school about characters alive so I guess the message to me is that the Sch will inform us info we need to know n if there is no info, then we don’t need to know. I can live with that
