I have been planning to go Melaka too šŸ˜‰

I can't wait for school holidays, so my kids are going to skip a day of school. Can I know for Hotel Equatorial, is there plenty of carpark and is it safe to park there?

I am contemplating to do a 2 days 1 night. Drive over on Friday early morning and drive back on Saturday late afternoon. We have things to do on Sunday. But looking at my parents & sister's recent pictures and the way everyone describe here, itching to extend another day and ds simply has to skip a day of piano lesson.

So... 2 days, 1 night or should it be 3 days 2 nights?

        hi EN,

I like Equatorial also for it's proximity to Palawan - the only shopping centre in Malacca (makhota is cmi - in my opinion). Not sure about parking, but I think should be ok cos many SGns stay there.

        http://www.equatorial.com/mel/map_hotel.htm

Honestly, I usually just do a 2D/1N trip cos apart from eating, nothing quite excites me there. I don't visit the heritage sites anymore - felt that a school trip eons back was enough to brave the hot hot sun. šŸ˜›

Those who may get excited over 'San Shu Gong' should note that these are available in NTUC also. šŸ˜„

And and...those who are going to be parking by the roadside, remember to put coupons (can get from those mamak stores along the roads) - I don't recall any coin operated machines the last time I was there. I think their aunties also very vigilant with parking summons, esp in touristy places.

Hi EN, 2D1N shld be sufficient if this is not yr first trip to Malacca. Enough for u to try out all the gd food, shopping & swimming for the kids (a must for my kids). I will be going there this 27 Nov. Staying for 1N also cos my girl has piano lesson on Sun too. The last trip I went in Jun this yr, we stayed at Equatorial. There are sufficient parking lots & it is safe..no worries (but my hubby usually locked the steering wheel, to playsafe).

Btw, there's another Chinese restuarant, \"Bei Zhan\" which serves gd & cheap food. They have recently shifted. If u drive along the flyover juz in front of Holiday Inn, u will see it towards the end on yr right hand side. Its a white color bldg of their own.

hquek, pinky88, many thanks for the advise.

The last I visited Malacca was 12 years ago. Right after our honeymoon (we were on 1 month leave). It will be the kids first time. I guess by now, there will be a lot of changes. If insufficient, can always drive down again.

Went to this restaurant during our September Malacca holiday trip. The food is no longer that good.
but if u are staying at hotel puri..
You can also visit 'Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum', a private muesum and it is also where 'Little Nyonya' was shot. My kids enoyed it. It is at Jalan Cheng Lock, very near to Hotel Puri. Another restaurant that we had tried along this street was 'Coconut House', selling pizza and pasta. Just that the wait is too long. Buying coffee powder is also a 'must' for my relative from Jonker Street. As for my kids, a 'must eat' is nyonya kuih.

                TIA šŸ™‚

                  are you referring to this?

A Nyonya kuih production house located at Tengkera (a suburb in between of Old Melaka section and Klebang), during day time.

                  Address:
72, Lorong Pantai Tengkera 2C, Tengkera, Melaka.

You may get to Tengkera from Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Heeren Street). If you're coming from Old Melaka town, it will only take you about 5 to 10 minutes.

btw, for fans of Little Nyonya - some of the scenes were from Hotel Puri too!

Wah! Don't know there is such nyonya kuih production house. Really must try next time. Thanks for the address and map. Also tried ꞗ记肉éŖØčŒ¶ beside Hotel Tan Cheng Lock. Not bad!

                      Hi edunloaded,

Nice pics you got on your blog on your recent Malacca trip!

I'm planning a 3D2N trip to Malacca with my family in Dec. Joining us will be my sister's family as well as my parents. There'll be 8 adults, 4 young children, and a baby (18mths). We'll be staying at Hotel Puri.

Do share what not to be missed activities and foods (besides the chicken rice balls) over there.

I'm also considering the transport there. Coach ride is 4.5hrs. Means departure at 8am (an unearthly hour to wake up), reaching only at 12:30pm. Seems so undesirable compared to your experience of 2.5hrs drive (depart at 11am, arriving at 1:30pm). The prospect of having to manage young children cooped up in a coach for 4.5hrs is also terribly unappealing. šŸ˜›

However, I'm the only one in our group who has a valid driving licence, and I've never driven in Malaysia before. What's your experience driving there and back? Any jams? We'll be setting off on a Thurs, coming back on Sat. I've also read about the (in)famous m'sia TPs.....

Assuming if I summon enough courage to drive there and back, anyone knows if there are mini bus rental service to accommodate my group? Pls share....TIA!

The drive to Malacca is actually quite fast!

There are no jams as I went by 2nd link. Frankly, I would rather pay the toll rather than wait for ages via the old causeway.

I know of people who do bus services up there - but I have not tried them before. So i cannot confidently recommend them

I can pass u the contacts if u want!

The food there is not to be missed!

We also went up the observatory tower - i think that gives quite a good view of Malacca.

U can visit the old fort and church.

But the main thing is food! They are of walking distance if u stay at equatorial! So that's the best hotel if u dont have a car!

                      Hope that helps!
