After settling dd for her sec 1 life. Now ds P4 this year to look after. Qualified only round 1 GEP. Dissapointed. Boy and girl are really different. Boys get influence easily, mature later, play so much, aiyah headache.

No wonder NJC has different cut-off point for boys and girls. They won't tell you as this is internal decision. Boys cut-off point is lower than girls.

Really? There's a different cut off point for boys and girls at NJC? Is this for the S1 Central Posting? Cannot be, right? After all the allocation is done by MOE.

      Friendship,
How exactly did you find out about the different cut-off points when you claim that it is an internal decision?
I also find that hard to believe as posting is decided by MOE.

NJC is a co-ed school. They have to balance their students intake.

There was a case a boy with 257 could enter but a girl with 257 couldn’t enter in one of the thread.

That's because each student's T-score has many decimal points after 257. So the boy's T-score is probably better than the girl's by decimal points. Nothing to do with NJC's 'internal decision'.

But there are usually many 257s that can enter, but also many 257s who cannot enter. Bc it really depends on the decimal points attached to their 257.

From the guide to sec sch book 2011, RI and Hwa Chong COP were lower than NYGH and RGS.

On the surface wise and to look good on their profile, they always put COP as high as possible. On the other hand, the schools have given chance to students who score 2-3 points lower than their COP.

There are loop holes everywhere. P1 registration is another one. The word ‘pull string’ is still valid in everywhere and every country. Must pull the correct string, correct person and right timing otherwise recent news about Director and Commissioner will not be in the headlines.

COP is not determined by the school, it is published by MOE based on the T-score of the last student who got into the school by his / her merit. So, in other words, there is no room for manipulation of this number by the school.

As for the school accepting students who score 2-3 points lower than COP, it is really a case of demand and supply, depending on how many appeals and the quality of the appeals. I know this year RGS accepted appeals who are 2 points lower than COP. I also know this year HCI and NYGH do not accept appeals whose T-score are exactly at their COP. This is really dependent on the schools' vacancies for the year.

I am still of the opinion that the school does not determine the future results of the kids, it is dependent on the kid's own character, potential, motivation and ability. As parents, we should be aware of our own kid's character and needs, and not just be caught in a rat race and end up hurting our kids with unrealistic expectations.

The only way the school can do this and not affect their COP is via Post-S1 posting appeals, OR via DSA. Not on the secret. I've never heard of *pulling strings* at p1. Altho' if you have the ability, you can do things like offer your pro-bono services to the school board, and then you have your \"strings pulled\" already. Nothing \"under the table\", or we'd be a corrupt society! Then again, it depends on whether the school accepts your services for their school board!

We know of a few with COP of less than 250 who got into NYGH via appeal!! And for HCI, below the official COP too. I think it depends pretty much on who you know and how well you them. :siam:

Yes connections do matter but these kids have a lot of catchup to do plus they go in knowing everyone's COP is much higher - must be of confident character to handle. For NYGH, perhaps some of these are NYPS girls - Mdm Heng woud have a soft spot for them :grphug:
