Hi,

Do you send your kids to math olympiad class ? Or will the training/lessons be provided by PeiHwa?

i do. so far no lessons provided by PH even in P5. in my son's olympiad class, he said there are 2 other PH students there too.

      Hi Dyh,

When did you start your son on Math Olympiad class ? P4 ?
Supplementary lessons will start from tmr. Is this year earlier?

i wonder what is the purpose of the supp classes. is it an acknowledgement that the current school system or lessons plan is flawed? Why can't they fit everything within the school hours. if it is remedial classes for weaker students, i can understand.

It seems like the suppl classes are just a continuation of curriculum. My son told me he didn't benefit from last year's suppl classes...I should have taken him out to give him more time to rest.
Not attending the supplementary lesson session could mean the pupil missed out on some parts of the normal lesson plan. This missing part still has to be filled up by sb at some other time.

              Hi Dyh,

Do you know how do the PH student perform during the past math olympiad?

I dun think it is \"overloaded'. Maybe more for the kiasu mentality \"if can complete syllabus earlier, can hv extra time for extra worksheets nearing exam time\" or \"to buffer teachers' absentism\" or \"unexpected sch shutdown\" etc.

I see that my boy's P5 CL teacher is taking a slower pace to teach. His vocabulary book is filled up more this round. I like this approach, making sure the pupils hv time to copy the meaning, the compatible characters, etc.

I understand that Maths Hub compiles a list of its students' achievement in MO competitions. PH does not seem to compile such a list. U can visit any Maths Hub to look at the published MO booklets, I hv seen the list of achievements in these booklets.

P5 syllabus is indeed the heaviest of all 6 yrs.. hence maybe more hours is needed but that does not means that teacher slow down during regular lesson times lor.. Actually, 2 days per wk for PH is not that bad liao.. My fren's kid have to extend up to 3pm for all P3-P6 DAILY!!! Why the need to do so?? Dunno also..I joking told her that if the teachers can 'teach' and helps in results, good for her kid but if there to waste time then might as well pay for tuition classes... πŸ˜‰

PH only send selected kids to MO trainings. U can opt to go on your own outside sch. Mathhub is one fav choice. There are many centers like Mind Stretcher which is run using Terry Chew's MO syllabus, Math Oasis which also run AMC ( American Math Competition) and MO and many many more..

I had send DS for SASMO competetion in P3 but not the class ..I kinda trained him myself.. πŸ‘… The purpose is for exposure rather than winning anything..good experience for him though.. πŸ˜„ SASMO usually runs the competition in May ard SA1 timing..bad timing .. but boh pian.. they just started the P3/4 papers which is only 15 questions and suited for their level rather than the full paper meant for P5/6..

PH sends selected students for training? hmm...I wonder based on what criteria? Whatever it is, it is not based on the exam results alone.

Did your son go for the AMC8? It is a really tough paper. πŸ˜“
