      Hi All,

Anyone tried Myanmar Maid? Are they really as blur like sotong? Those who had before care to share?

My sister once had a myanmese maid.
It depends individually. Some can speak simple english and some speak simple mandarin.

I will compare them with indonesian maid. So not really blur like sotongs.

My Burmese maid is quite good. She did not know Mandarin at all when she started with us. Now (at the end of her 2-year contract), she can understand most of what we say and say some words and phrases in Mandarin.

I think patient is the keyword here.

As long as you are willing to spend time communicating and training your maid, she will turn out well.

But some after working like 4-5 months still blur blur like sotong! I begin to think maybe now the standards of maid had gone down compare 10 years ago.

Maids nowadays are very different as compared to 10 years ago. My first maid worked for me for 5 years and the recent ones left after 1 month. So the character and responsibility of maids now has greatly reduced.

I agree with u on this point!

I think in the end - agencies on the whole are generally are the same.

Maids are not a product, and that's why they cant gurantee anything.

At the end of the day, they just take time to adjust.

The good ones - also probably dont stay a maid forever. Mine just went to Canada to work! 😢

Don't be sad that your maid went to Canada to work.
I used to be very emotionally attached to my maid.
When my maid of 5 years left my family to go back to her hometown, I cried for 5 days....
Then my DH told me, \" They are not our family after all, they will still leave you one day. As long as you treat them well, do not be too emotionally attached to the maid.\"

Since then, I have learnt not to be too emotional with maids.

                  Hi Baong

                  Thanks for the info.

Hey, can check with KS members here, what is your thoughts on indo maid from west java? For example, lampung, lombok, sumatra...

Care to share with me what is your experience.

                  Regards

                  baong:
                  Hi Lynn2,

I don't exactly get your question... But normally this is what I do. If the agency is new to me, I'll definitely make a trip personally to the agency to see :

                  1. If there are a lot of transfer maids sitting around/busy doing 'cleaning' in the agency. Its not a good sign if there are a lot of transfer maids sitting around, cause its shows that the agency probably did not do a careful job to match the maids to their clients. Pretend that you wanted to get a transfer maid and count how many are there. If there are more than 3, I usually walk out of the agency after a polite talk.

                  2. Talk to the agent. Well, do you feel you have been served? Did the agent bother to ask you what you need the maid for? If I am not comfortable talking to the agent or I feel that I have not been 'served', I usually walk out as well. Make sure the agent is really aware about your needs and make a short-list of their bios for your consideration.

                  3. Ask if they/someone from their company travel personally to the country to short list the maid for their agency. If they do not do that and say that they rely on their counter parts to provide them the maids' info. I will walk out too, as I feel that these kind of agencies do not deserve my money. See they don't even bother to evaluate the maids that they are marketing, do you think they are serious in helping their clients?

Yes alot of stuffs are online now and its really convenient to click and view and make a phone call to purchase but there are still certain things that I think cannot be replace by the virtual way.

As for the selecting of maids, if the agency fits the above 3 criteria, I usually rely on their recommendation/short listed bios for my decision. I hope I help answer your question.

                  Hi icycandies,

Actually I am not aware about this room for maid rule. But if MOM doesn't allow that then I guess you are taking a risk if you let your domestic helper sleep in the living room. What if MOM found out about it?

I do not think that which part of Indonesia the maid comes from matters.

Even though you heard of many other people who have good maids from sumatra, but you may not be as lucky as they are.

My current maid, who is a very good maid, is from the Dieng Plateau from East Java. I have used 8 maids and she is the best maid I have employed. But then I do not advise anyone to go around looking for maids from the Dieng Plateau šŸ˜‰

It's like asking are people from Tampines nicer than people from Jurong West ? šŸ˜‰

Whether you get a good maid or not, depends purely on your luck, especially when you are taking a maid with no previous working experience. Personally I will look for a maid who has worked for at least 4 years with one employer in Singapore, she will be a safer choice.
