      Hi parents,

Just to share this article, even though it is not directly linked to Jurong West preschools, it has to do with what was recently discussed.

      http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/moral-landscapes/201112/dangers-crying-it-out

Although this is primarily talking about babies and the ill effects of letting them cry it out, it has research studies pointing to how the neurons in the brain die when the child is in intense distress or suffers from insecurity.

According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, a child or person has to meet basic needs before effective learning can take place. One of them is security. I think all of us parents know that if our children are crying and in distress, there is no way we can teach them ABCs or get them to do Math at that time.

Recently, we were discussing about not wanting our kids to be traumatized by being unsettled in school. And how we want our kids to be happy in preschool. Especially the young ones who cannot express themselves as well.

That's why we need empathetic and experienced teachers who know how to settle new kids and can soothe them and make them happy and secure. This aspect is not to be belittled in a school, I feel.

So a teacher or school should not feel that a parent is too protective or that we parents are not \"trusting\" and \"leaving it to the professionals to do their thing\" if we have concerns.

Am saying this also in the capacity of being a teacher myself and now a parent of 3. 🙂 Dd is not my 1st child so I can't possibly be over-protective. Just a normal standard of love and concern.

schoolhouse by the bay is good. i like their system of rotating english and chinese teachers… the kids can learn chinese better that way.

Hi mummies, i have a 21-mth-old son and im now looking to enroll him in a playgroup. The nearest to my place is only talentplus but i dont really like it. So far I’ve narrowed down to Summer Montessori and The Enrichment Classroom at JW Sports Complex. Problem is my helper has to take a bus to n fro to either sch… sighhh

The Enrichmt Classrm only take in 24M n above so i’ll hav to wait till Apr. Fees will be S$280/mth, 2 hrs M-F. Have up to K2 but Nursery, K1 n K2 will be S$350/mth, 3 hrs M-F.

Im not sure of the fees at Summer though… The lady who called me refused to disclose details on the phone… Just told me to go dwn to the sch for more info and only left slots in 11am-1pm… Can choose to go 3x a wk also which i think shld be enough for now. Anyone knows abt the fees? Or if u know abt any other schs in JW? TIA! 😃

I’ve enrolled my boy in Tykes Playhouse. He was previously from another montessori school which does not cater transport hence the switch.

There at Tykes Playhouse not only the teachers are well experienced, it has a great preschool environment too.
I’m residing in Bukit Panjang & shouldthere be any parents who are keen in enrolling your child there too, do PM me if you require transport as the school is arranging for one (cost will not be so expensive if there’s a certain number of children).

Sigh… dear mummies, need all your advices. In the end we decided to send him to Little Learners but he has been crying everyday when he knows it’s time for school. Doesnt even wan to put on his uniform. His temper is also getting from bad to worse.

Now, I need to start this school hunting again on top of the headache over school hunting… any schools to recommend?

                        Hello pinkitty :snuggles: :hugs:
So sorry to hear about it :hugs: ...my 2009 DS is still having fun playing at home as this mummy is still contemplating whether to send him for playgroup yet 😉

Did you try talking with the teachers in the school? are they able to help like coaxing into the classroom? Which centre did you send him to?
