Agree about the slow part. My indo maid walk very slowly whether doing housework or going shopping with us. She just simply don't like to rush but on her off day she very fast in getting ready to go out.

When I return my ex-myanmar maid to agent, they return me the balance loan of $2700. But that maid was transfer out to other employers. This is where the gov't should step in because they can cancel the work permit if they receive bad reviews from employers. But of course, MOM not doing anything. They are concern whether can adapt to life here and interview employers for changing too many maid's. That's why if you have 70% good maid, better to retain her than start all over again.

Your comments in red is so so true... i look back at the last 4 maids i had...

the first, had a fall, had giddy spells and cldn't work... No choice but to return her. The agent transferred her, but within a mth, was sent back (same probs) and agent in the end sent her back to indo...

the second, fili.. came for a week, and decided she didnt wanna work n interact w my boy... asked to go back to agent.

the third, indo, was lazy... just cldn't clean the hse when thats her main task.. and i decided to change her.

the fourth, indo, stole ciggies and smoked... can def not keep her.

if i go for a next maid, MOM will also interview me... is that fair?? i dont think its fair, but of cos MOM don't care.. and can't be bothered if maids are going ard to diff employers due to no fault of the employers themselves... why arent they interviewing maids who change employers frequently?? or even have a system to make agents send bad maids home? sending such bad maids around different employers in sg is really a bad thing to be happening!

        hi SMH forest,

same thoughts as you and totally agree with you...i have never heard of MOM interviewing maids that had a frequent change of employers in a year. In MOM 'eyes', I'm a \"bad employer\"... I had changed 4 Indo maids last year and before i can apply for my 5th Indo maid, i had to go for a Employer Orientation Course, if did not attend, WP of 5th maid will not be approved. MOM will really make life difficult for those employers who going to get their 5th maid.. from the point i select my maid (new maid) from biodata to her arriving at my house, it's almost coming to 3 months!
        My story:
1st maid (transfer maid): while waiting for my maid to come, after 2 weeks, tell me she don't want to work cos of nagging from my parents
2nd maid (new maid, working experience in Saudi): waited for her for 2 months, after 1 week, she say she don't want to work. this one really attitude... tell her eat breakfast at 6, lunch at either 1 or 2, she can eat breakfast at 10, lunch at 4pm. still can tell me cos this is the timing she eat at Indonesia!
3rd maid (transfer maid, working experience in M'sia): work 3 months, no courtesy at all but we tong cos she can do housework.. final decision to let her go cos she was making phone calls on her mobile in the toilet (door was open) when she's supposed to do housework! what make us angry is that she has passed her hp to agency and she not supposed to have any phone on hand! she lied to us!
4th maid (transfer maid, experience in Saudi), after 1 week, run away to embassy, due to misunderstanding with my mum.

So my conclusion now... to get really new maid, with no oversea working experience... Me now got phobia of maids with experience in Saudi & M'sia. my 5th maid only work in Indo before.. been with me, 1 month plus, so far so good... Yes, really will vomit blood and need to be very patient with new maid when teaching her but i felt that it's the attitude, she still got abit of \"scared\" element in her, being new in a foreign country... having say this, of course, selecting a maid still much depend on luck...

          S6169,

Think she has to get her KTLKN (whatever) card, else she may have problems coming back. Just pay according to contract you signed. last time, I didn't pay my maid when she was on home leave; but I think the latest contract now states that home leave we still have to pay for their salaries.

BTW, you can go online to mom website to claim back the FWL during her home leave. Just indicate when she is away and submit your request - you may have to produce the boarding pass (ask your maid to keep it) if they ask (but so far I never got any request to produce). They will subsequently credit it back to your account.

Thank you so much for the information. One more question, if I want to renew her WP by myself, how about the contract? Can I just print out one standard contract and sign. Thanks.

The contract is essentially a document between you and the maid. You can print out a standard version and sign, but you must be aware if there may be any clauses that you deem unfair. I would suggest for you to take that version and see what you feel should be taken out and what can be added in. Discuss with your maid (mutual respect) and then sign.

Remember what you sign is legally binding on you.

It's not tough to renew WP - I did it once for my indo maid and it was a breeze. 🙂

Just don't forget about medical insurance bit. if she really kena, that can take a huge chunk out of our pockets.

Mine also very slow in walking. I asked her and she said that she is like that from the beginning. Anyway, I don't want to bother so much about it as she is free and reading the story books most of the time (daytime). So if she walks slow or works slow, it is going to be her own time. Even with her slow motion, she can finish her job by 930 or atmost by 10 am.

              I agree.

I just want to share the following conversation which my hubby and I had last night.

Hubby: Looks like not much conflict/arguments (between my FDW and me) these few days.

              Me: Quiet.....

Hubby: Hey, Looks like not much conflict/arguments (between my FDW and me) these few days, right?

Me: Look at the dressing table mirror and what can you see?

Hubby: The mirror is not cleaned properly and I can see the soap/something not wiped out properly.

              I just smiled and said...

Me: I did not ask her why she did not wipe properly AND ALSO I did not ask her to wipe/clean again.
Now you know why there is not much arguments, right?

Hubby: He just laughed and said that it is better to keep this FDW rather than retraining unknown angel(?)

Just to share my story of my new maid.

She came to my house on 13/01/2012. 5 days later, when I reached home after work, she shown me her hands, is look like someone pinched. I asked her how she got the pinched marks, she replied dunno. I told her maybe when she do the housework and knocked and she kept saying no.

I found abit weird, so I asked her what she wants me to do. She said, I just want to \"highlight\" to you cos I might carries virus which I dunno and might pass it to your sons. After hearing, I am very sure and confirmed that she made up the story herself by pinching her hands. Then she can go back to agent don't want to look after my sons. I told her that will inform the agent.

Next day, she told me can't work and want to go back to agent. I called the agent and she got scolded by the agent. Strange, after scolding, she was happier and kept saying sorry to me and promised to work for my family. So, everything’s went smoothly during CNY.

My worries finally arrived last evening, she told me again wanted to go back to the agent.

Employing a maid is really by luck....
I thot everything's went smoothly during CNY....but last evening I heard from my hubby about my maid asking for help when my friend came to my house on 初一 night.....here's the story....

One of my friend brought her new maid to my house and the two maids were chatting in the kitchen. As I know that the maids like to gossip, so I asked my friend's maid to come out and look after my friend's son.

Too my shock, my friend's maid(3 days later) told my friend she can't sleep must tell my friend that my maid asked for help. She told my friend my maid complained that she goes to bed every nights at 1am and wake up 530am....

The worse part was she told my friend that I scolded my maid by pointing middle finger and scold her vulgar language :yikes:

I am very :stompfeet: cos all the above is not true...my maid finished the housework around 9 to 10pm, and went to bed around 11am. Everynights I will ask her to sleep earlier but she replied,\"mdm, I don't sleep so early, normally I sleeps at 12am+\". When I heard that, I told her cannot cos morning she needs to wake up at 530am to 6am. So, she will sleep around 11am.

Now who is lying? What should I do now?

Yes Forest, that's why I m beginning to believe my friend that the gov't is not doing anything because they want the citizens to depend less on maids. And that certain Female MP was just helping the gov't to pass the message. Sigh! Don't know what to do!??

This disappoints me alot... Our govt bodies/agencies never seem to have a holistic approach to their governing policies...

One one hand, MCYS encourages singaporeans to give birth.. have more babies.. boost the population... gives higher rebates to working mothers for cc etc... BUT they do encourage parents to take an active role in parenting... if someone is willing to forgo their careers and stay home to be with the kids, why arent they given the same rebates? Are they faulted for wanting to play an active part with their child? Contradicting no?

On the other hand, MOM penalises employers of helpers... thinks more about welfare of FDWs... Yet, now seems to want to make Singaporeans less reliant on FDWs... Doesn't penalise FDWs who run foul or are behaving badly... doesn't control the agencies and let them rule the market..

Can someone tell me, how can these differing policies work hand in hand? If mothers are encouraged to go to work, they will need help both with the kids and at home... If no help at home, mothers can barely have quality time with the kids... It doesnt help in special situations, e.g. kids have sensitive airways, need a clean house... or kids having special diets, or mothers who needs to work night time especially with concalls or need to travel etc...

HAIZ... Don't know what to do also!! As much as I would like to have another child... i am now a bit hesitant cos' am not sure how we can cope either... SIGH..

so, u did go for the MOM thingy ah... i am holding off getting my next maid... see how we can manage w/o a maid... so far, its been tiring... yday night, i even asked my hubby.. what does he think about us holding up w/o one and whether we can get thru it... hahaha, he says for now, maybe ok... but if we wanna have a 2nd child, mayb an issue again...

actually, even now, without a 2nd child.. i am already not able to spend night time reading or playing with my boy... and he is such a needy boy.. the poor kid sat on a stool in the kitchen watching me, whining away, when i was washing up the past 2 nights.. DIAO... we are also monitoring to see how he can cope with a dustier home, becos he is childhood asthmatic...

:xedfingers: let's hope things pans out well...

Hi forest, do u know that is exactly the real reason why I don’t want to have 2nd child?!!! I have zero support at home and my inlaws all passed away, my own parents are working. I m not even asking for financial help from the gov’t BUT just tweak the policy so that we can work with peace of mind.
