Hi forest, do u know that is exactly the real reason why I don't want to have 2nd child?!!! I have zero support at home and my inlaws all passed away, my own parents are working. I m not even asking for financial help from the gov't BUT just tweak the policy so that we can work with peace of mind.

Hi peapot, we are in an almost similar situation here. My in laws have also passed away already... my parents are in their 70s.. even when they were taking care of my boy when he was a baby, they needed a helper becos their energy levels don't warrant them to take care of a baby for 8-10hrs a day and upkeep their own home. I know for a fact that, if i were to have my 2nd child, my parents will definitely need a helper around to cope. Like you, I am a bit hesitant because I feel helpless.. need to devote time to work, housework, child, and also to maintain the marriage is no joke! Me and my hub are a little stressed out this week, trying to do the minimal cleaning we can do already.. And those small little arguments did emerge..... sad to say that!

Oh.. updates on my helper... I have signed the transfer form, and initially the agent indicated reason for transfer as \"not suitable\". I called up and questioned why i can't indicate that she had taken Sir's cigs and smoked? Agent said i could, and i amended accordingly. I seriously do not know if this will hamper the transfer, but i don't feel good that all transfer maids are \"conveniently\" labeled as not suitable, thus MOM is oblivious to such bad maids around. No matter if MOM is reading the reasons for transfer or not, I have done my part to state the real reasons for the transfer.

Hi forest, good for u. I wonder if agent can change yr reason without yr knowledge? But we citizens will benefit if all of us do our part to ensure maids like that are not passed around.

To be honest, I want to have my cake and eat it! I don’t want to give up my career and take care of my kids (I know it will be a wonderful experience) and when they’re grown up, I have no savings. Then I start to worry about retirement in my 50s where job will be harder to get, health won’t be as good, inflation going up and I need to pray that I won’t be down some sickness which I become a burden to my kid. So if I continue to work now, I can still enjoy motherhood and salary at the same time. That’s why I say I want have it all. I see no wrong in it. I don’t borrow and I don’t beg.

Now the question is why the gov’t don’t extend their help which is non-financial.

I remember seeing that someone posted the steps to bring indonesia maid direct without agent. I scroll through previous pages from 708 onwards but can’t find. Anyone knows? Or remember the page?

I have a question. My friend canceled her maid’s work permit and sent her away to the agent, giving her 2 weeks to look for a new employer, failing which she would be sent home. After 2 weeks, she had not found an employer BUT the agent said they would just ask the maid to go to Johor and come back. The maid would no longer be the responsibility of the employer bec she had departed the country.

My question is, did the maid enter Singapore again from Johor on a social pass? Is there no regulation against this where a maid whose work permit was recently canceled comes back on a social pass? It’s quite clear that she’s doing this just to extend her stay and look for a new employer. If under a social pass, how long can the maid stay here for to look for a new employer?

If she is on social pass, it’s illegal to look for a job. The agent is trying to find loophole in the system. Social pass means she 30 days here. Maid should be sent back to home country and not elsewhere. This is clearly indicated by MOM. If you follow everything by the book, they cannot fault you if something goes wrong.

I think they are taking a risk in that they may be refused entry but in general they will be let in. I'm sure ICA knows what is happening but just turn a blind eye as they aren't really doing any harm.

Those maids who come over on their own looking for a job (i.e. not through an agent) will usually do this. They come in on a 2 weeks social visit pass, find an employer then go over to JB while the paperwork is being done then come back in.

Can your friend get something from the agent? I recall that the standard contract says employers have to send maid back to a specific airport where they hail from. Must make sure work permit definitely cancelled and best is if have some form of black and white. Dun kena bite back from agent/maid to say that employer ill treat maid by sending her to JB instead of home.

Thanks for your responses. Will advise my friend. The problem here is that too often employers rely on maid agencies to advise them, not realizing that what they're suggesting is not fully legal. 😞

Any opinion which country maid is more suitable for taking care of elderly MIL and school going children?

Now toggle whether to employ a Burmese maid that can speak mandarin and an Indo maid?
