Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) is just a guideline. Don't think the authorities will enforce on it.

Legally, you are supposed to stay in the HDB flat. With so many flats changing hands everyday, it may be daunting for the authorities to check one by one. One can choose to do otherwise. Just don't be caught.

Agree...the authorities are aware of it. For my case, I wrote to them confirming that I've not not breached the \"rule\" as I do not want to jeopardise my sales.

        hi

        thanks for your replies.

I checked the HDB website, it clearly stated that if i bought the HDB house in a open market then i must physically stay minimum 3 years before i rent out.
Some more i can’t leave the house unoccupied (i.e. leave the house empty and stay in other property) and can’t get my relative / fried to occupy without collecting rent.

          Hi,

I know this has been discussed and talked about many times. Though it’s an unfair way but we also know that there are actually alot of parents out there who used this method to get a place in desired school. I suppose if they’ve the resources to do it, no one can actually stop them.

Has anyone tried renting a place near a desired school and then use it for P1 registration?

How long must one rent the house before and after P1??? We’ve heard of all the "go by the book" etc… but one wonder if the authority will actually check that or have the resources to do it.

Also, I suppose there will probably be a need to rent the entire unit rather than a room.

What about supporting documents during P1 registration? Eg. someone rent a place (eg. room or unit), changes IC address to that address) then applies for P1. In this case, I don’t think the school will ask to see the rental agreement?

Hi, tagging on this topic, I would like to clarify something... I heard from some of my friends that there is a minimum period time that we need to stay in the vicinity near the school inorder to qualify for phase 2C. Is it true? They said that it is a minimum of 2 years before the actual registration to primary one.

If it is, then i need to move by next year...
            Many thanks in advance 😄

Some valid reasons for changing address after P1 registration:

                1. You are moving to another address within the vicinity of the school.
                2. You are making some alternative child care arrangements, eg. you decided to move, but the child either stays with the care-giver in the original address, or close-by.

How near is within vicinity? within 1km or 2km or within same Constitueny or others? :?

Need some advise. I’m currently staying overseas, I own an HDB flat which is being rented out (got approval). If I wish to join the P1 registration next year, can I rent a unit near to the desired school (which is not the same catchment area of my HDB flat)?

                    Hi All

                    Im very new to kiasuparents.com.
I have a question to ask. I am not staying in the address printed out on my IC, how do i register a school for my son?
Should I go to the nearest sch to the address on my ic or the address where I am staying?
There isnt any good sch near to the address on my ic so would like very much to register for schools nearby to where Im putting up. So hw do I go about it? I must infm the sch or produce any documentation for the hse Im living in whc is also our property?
What If the sch i wanted him to be in is away frm where we staying? say more than 2km away?
Please help, im so blur over this…

You should register based on yr address stated in your NRIC. That would determine that you are 1km, 1-2Km or more than 2Km in the school.
