      friendship:
Dd checked with nearly all her classmates, no one qualified for all the 6 choices. Some waitlist, some didn't get any response, some get in the one not in favor.

      Dd got into her choice.
This classmate of hers is not even a charismatic nor possesses a leadership quality, can pass all 3 uniform group interviews?
Anyhow, thru all these competitiveness, dd learns life experience.
      Friendship,

i have been keeping mum over some comments that you have posted as I believe everyone is entitled to their opinions/views.

However, I feel that it is not very fair for you to comment on whether your DD's classmates really has charisma/leadership qualities. Perhaps, the panel saw sth in her that you and others were not able to spot, afterall you were not on the panel right ?

And have you ever wondered perhaps this girl's mom could be a silent participant on ksp forum. Turn around and think what if some other mom passes similar comments on your DD, how would you feel ? Afterall, here we all knew that your DD appealed to RGS and got in but no one on ksp thot any lesser of your DD versus the rest who went in via the \"rightful\" route thru S1 posting. No offence meant, i am just trying to make an illustration.

If you read abt how CCAs are being allocated in other schools on ksp, you will notice that this is a schoolwide problem, there are many who claim to be good in a particular CCA in their primary school but was not given that same CCA in Sec school and even encounter friends without the same experience and yet given that CCA they so badly wanted.

I think we all know that the education system is not perfect, in life there is not always fairness. However, all of our DDs here are already the fortunate lot who got into one of the best schools in Sngapore. So let us just appreciate what we have and let the little things go, then everyone will be happy. If our DDs sometimes do not get the things the way they want at RGS, then let us as their parents use this as an opportunity to teach them how to compromise and accept certain decisions (no matter how unfair things may seem). This will allow them to mature and in time learn to manage their expectation in school and in the big world out there.

Anyway i am happy for your DD who got her choice of CCA, mine has no firm offer, she is on waitlist for 2 CCAs. i hope she gets one of the waitlist but if the school allocates her a CCA that is not even withinher 6 choices, I will tell her it is OK, just go with an open mind and maybe you would even grow to like it, if not, take it as a new learning experience and do your best while waiting for a chance to try out for your favourite CCA again in Yr 3 😄

Why should the CCA teams be picking members who are charismatic or possesses leadership quality only? If every member in the team is a leader, then who are going to be the followers? There can only be a few leaders in a group, else too many cooks spoil the broth!

Maybe the girl possesses qualities such as humility, patience, considerate, demonstrated willingness to learn, willingness to listen.......these are qualities which will make people want her to be in their teams. No doubt RGS being a top school, leadership quality will more \"sought after\", but nonetheless, the other qualities should also be appreciated. If one cannot be a leader in a team, one must learn to be a good follower that can contribute to the team!

Sorry ahh.....not in the school but drop by to kaypo kaypo.....can't help but must say my piece about appreciating other qualities in people 😉 .

          hi

from what i know, even in NYHG, for examply Choir, the seniors are the ones to select the sec 1 girls and they are the ones to actively train her as well.

many top schools empower their seniors.

one day when our dd become a senior, she will also enjoy this privilege (of course, keep fingers crossed)

so really, its a common practice: first time we hear it sounds odd, after a few times here and there, then we realise that's how it is.

hope this makes ssiter 'friendship' feels better :snuggles:

            Hi mums

Read these 2 quotations on RG CCA board some 2 weeks ago and would like to share with you:

"The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything"

"You can’t control what happens to you. But you can control your response to what happens to you"

Hello … just dropping by and I’d like to comment regarding CCA trials and the biasness.

Firstly, I think it’s all about perception. As a parent you may see the best of your child, or you may not, and others likewise see a side of your child. There is no fair or unfair in this. There is only perception, society dynamics, and no remarkable bias for or against any child. For example, though she may act very kiddish around friends, she may have a mature side she shows to the panel or which the panel is able to detect which leads to acceptance to the CCA. I don’t think one should conclude based on limited evidence on complex personalities.

I think that CCA trials are almost as fair as can be, also because even if you ask the teachers and coaches to conduct the interviews there may be biasness. Some may feel drawn to certain character types, etc. and even then connections come into play. And that’s just life. In life, connections are everything. Charisma and a good first impression - even though it may be unfair to the more introverted, are everything. That’s how society functions, and it’s just playing out small-scale in RGS. You can’t forever be living in a utopia of equality because life isn’t like that. Life isn’t fair. Sometimes I guess we just have to accept that.

Accept that, but doesn’t mean we do so grudgingly. I think it has been mentioned before, but in society and in life in general you may not thrive in the most general definition given by society but you may find other spaces in which you can live and thrive. For example, in the RGS context, you may not get into a good CCA by the general definition. Maybe you get into an unpopular UG. But that may be where you thrive. According to my friends in a UG, for example, they are remarkably bonded and the sessions give you everything you can hope for from a CCA - enjoyment and friends, learning and skills, leadership and challenges. To me that is good enough. So really, appreciate what you have because there are always advantages to it.

And to highlight another point above, yes, count your blessings. That you are alive, that you are loved, that you are already in the top 3% academically and your problems are only the concerns someone as fortunate as you can have. Count your blessings, and you will find that there’s so much going for you. That you’re so privileged. Many may not understand your problems because they worry about things so basic that they cannot possibly have the chance even to enjoy the life and worry about your ‘problems’.

                      Hope this helps(:

P.S. If I’ve offended anyone that was not my intention and I’m really sorry.
