Just got a call from the school. My dd was offered a place at P5.


Dd was doing fine in her current school, but she is really very keen to join SCGS. I have reservation, she is getting the "good" teachers as she is in the best class in current school.

Can any parents out there help answer my queries below:
1) How many P5 classes are there in 2012?
2) How many student per class?
3) Which class is the best class?
4) Are the materials same for all class or best class get more drilling?
5) How are the teachers there? dedicated? or do they expect parents to send kids for tuition.
5) How many student in 2011 PSLE got quality T-Score? i.e. 250 and above
6) What is the COP for affliated to the secondary division in 2013?

really appreciate your feedback, as I have only 1 day to get back to them.

3) Which class is the best class? 5C and 5G, which class is your dd being offered? 5P?
4) Are the materials same for all class or best class get more drilling? Nope for Maths workbooks and some enrichment classes.
5) How are the teachers there? dedicated? or do they expect parents to send kids for tuition. Depends. There are super on and lazy teachers in all schools. Teachers generally do not expect parents to send kids for tuitions. It is the parents who get scared after seeing other parents sending their kids for tuition.
5) How many student in 2011 PSLE got quality T-Score? i.e. 250 and above. More than one quarter got 250 and above.6) What is the COP for affliated to the secondary division in 2013? COP is 220 in 2013 but your dd will go to sec 1 in 2014. COP for 2014 is not announced yet. In a recent briefing to P5 parents, parents were informed that with the introduction of IP, affiliated students going to sec 1 is subjected to availability of vacancies.

Is all class taking Higher Chinese? If not, what are the class that are taking? Or do they work in such a way that during Chinese class, they go to different classes?

My dd takes Higher Chinese, and intend to continue to do so. I heard that Chinese standard is not very good there, is it true? My dd currently attends a SAP school.

I had enquired which class she will be assigned to, but they wouldn’t reveal.

I really don’t know if we should let her join SCGS primary. She wanted to go because elder sis got into S1, and COP is going to be higher in 2013 when they go IP.

I have observed the performance of transferred students over the years and they generally do very well. Your dd must have done very well in order to get such an offer from the school :-).

Your dd is unlikely to be in the best class since she is a transferred case. And P5 class will move up together to P6. There is this girl in 6P now who was transferred last year. She was top in Chinese and Maths last year but she is not placed in the top 2 classes this year. However she is together with the best class for Maths supplementary class.

As for Higher Chinese, not all classes will take Higher Chinese. The students from the various classes will be grouped together for Higher Chinese. While the school standard for chinese is not very good, the school could still obtain 89.3% of quality passes in 2011 PSLE. This, in my opinion, is a very good result given that most girls come from English speaking families.

If you are thinking of going to SCGS IP from the primary school, there is no affiliation at all. SCGS primary girls will compete for SCGS IP together with other students.

Looks like it’s going to be tough decision, gonna be sleepless night. She says that she wants to go, cos even the OP COP will be raised by then. To get in as non-affiliate, indeed it’s rather stressful.

My worry is that she will not be place in the best class, and thus, will not get all the drilling, attention and extra materials accorded to "best" class.

Probably P5 is not the best time to transfer, there are not many candidates on the day of admission test, thus not so many competitors (so to speak).

Normally u will know the result after 3 wks from the interview.
Btw can i know how is the test and interview?
Will like to go in March/ April or October this year...
