Hello pinkitty :snuggles: :hugs:Sigh... dear mummies, need all your advices. In the end we decided to send him to Little Learners but he has been crying everyday when he knows it's time for school. Doesnt even wan to put on his uniform. His temper is also getting from bad to worse.
Now, I need to start this school hunting again on top of the headache over school hunting... any schools to recommend?
So sorry to hear about it :hugs: ...my 2009 DS is still having fun playing at home as this mummy is still contemplating whether to send him for playgroup yet
Did you try talking with the teachers in the school? are they able to help like coaxing into the classroom? Which centre did you send him to? -
Actually, we were debating whether to let him stay at home or go to school but he is really active and we do observe that he is slowly beginning to be shy, so we are worried that we put him at home, he will lose his social skills.
The teacher kept telling me it’s ok but a lot of tell tale signs makes us think it doesnt seems ok. It’s Little Learners at Jurong West near to JP… -
Hi kabalevsky,
There are currently 3 kids in the class as it’s newly opened. Was told thatthe ratio is 2 teachers to about 8 kids. The school is by the poolside. Teachers are experienced and trained. Every friday there’s Speech n Drama. -
:thankyou: Basha
pinkitty, oh dear, can understand and empathise with your headache. looking for a school is really tough. :snuggles:
summer montessori is not bad but i think it's full now. so is Tara. do you want to try them out and put on waiting list? or you want to try the new Tykes Playhouse that Basha has just introduced?
see which one your ds takes to? -
I have placed him on the waiting list for Tara… summer I am still waiting for them to response.
Tykes, I had message them… wondering they will allow me to let my son do a week of trial coz he is really very adverse to sch now -
Hi Basha, how many times a week are u sending your child (at Tykes)? I noe it is too early to tell but in ur opinion, is the curriculum good? I will be sending my son for a Trial class in Feb

-
Oh on a separate note, Summer is Full. And personally, i feel that they are coping rather poorly with the overwhelming response that they are receiving at the moment. I have received rather curt replies from the Directress. Or maybe my qns were too ‘‘idiotic’’? Lol
-
Hi Pinkkity, I m pretty sure Tykes would allow u to come for a week trial. They are having a Trial period in Feb. $30/session. Try it out!

-
Hi mummies, sorry for the late reply. Pretty tied up @ work!
Answers to all those who are asking some qns on Tykes Playhouse:
1) Tykes is currently only having 3 students at the moment hence all of them including my boy are attending 3x a wk (tue, wed, fri). Was told by the principal that since currently it’s a small grp, 3x a wk os sufficient as the teachers have more time with the students as in 1:1 approach. But, if the class gets bigger abt 5-6 kids,it’s best to go for 5x so that everyone will have the same amount of approach with the teachers.
2) Regarding curriculum, below is the list of it:
- Phonics, Language, Mathematics => Montessori method
- Thematic => Science, Zoology, Experiments, Arts & Craft etc
Every term there will be one theme for example now they are learning on All About Myself (Body Parts).
- Speech & Drama every Friday for half hour
Where the kids are exposed to confidence in performing, learn on expressions, speech etc.
- Excursions => This will be available only when the class grows bigger
Just an add-on, the Montessori Directress is a montessori trained teacher from MMI (Modern Montessori Intl).
No harm in trying the trial class for your kiddos! As the students now are attending 3x a wk,you can place your child there too for trial for the 3 days in a wk!
Hope the above answer to all the queries.(",) -
Missed out on the Mandarin class for the curriculum!! There’s one at Tykes…
