Ive been told by my dd teachers in k2 that shes slow...n would only have the basics if she continues like this for the rest of the year...as much as they freak me out..i tell myself i know my dd..and shes fine!! i refuse to believe shes got a learning disability as i know they are saying it without saying it...
Err... My teachers are already telling me that I must put in more effort to bring up ds3 standard up.... Otherwise he might hve issues later!! N ds3 is only in N2 this year!!!! Thk he's a late developer as compared to his peers n his teachers are worried for him cos of the 'high' educational stds expected from kids nowadays!!
Haiz... Actually I see ds1's work n the amt of thgs he has to learn, I also worried for him! Now all my weeknites - once home - is to start interacting with him n start 'teaching him' via play!
Have 3 more yrs before P1!!
i encourage my children to read as even as they handle problem sums they need to understand what the question is asking them...so for me its read read read..a wide genre of books...and you will have a world of knowledge not just numbers and basic sc facts in your heads...

If I'm not wrong, these questions need heuristic skills. Last year when I attended a math session aim at P3 level, the Math HOD told us that there are 11 heuristic skills. P1-3, we use skills 1-6, P4-P6, its skills 7-11 or even can cross use. So long the kids know which skill to use, they can solve the problem sums. Problem is, the school does not practise as much as they preach....
That's why those abacus enrichment classes... No longer useful in Maths training.
Yes, don't panic and sign up for more enrichment classes.
Abacus does not apply here anymore. In P1, DS1 asked to withdraw from abacus as its not helping in his class work. -

Has anyone noticed? The most gan cheong or worried parents are usually teachers so they teach their kids many years ahead and the kids become advanced kids....then they become bored in class.....then they have issues.........then....... Amongst my teachers friends, it is 100% true.
Strange .....
Among my teachers friends, many of their kids are with maids, student care or parents/in laws cuz they work long hours. Some of them don't even see their kids on weekdays, only on weekends.
In fact, taking leave to coach their kids is unheard of too.
Anyway, it's getting really annoying to read generalizations (negative) about
teachers in almost EVERY thread.
I do understand and emphasize with forummers who genuinely have issues (you know who you are), but other than that, let's just focus on GENUINE discussions and not start a mass negative ranting session about teachers,
yet again. We have more than enough threads for that.
BTW, I do have an issue with my DS1's preschool teacher, whose recent actions have shattered my son's self esteem.
I am also sure that there are parents, regardless of what occupations they hold, are guilty of over preparing their kids .... -

N true!! pple do forget that when a child is labelled as slow..it hits the childz self esteem the most!! I have to keep encouraging my own kids to keep up their good work! -

My DS' Teacher (the one who complained about his laziness and bad attitude but later in the year described him as sincere, outstanding and obedient :?... the same one who makes spelling errors in correcting his compos) confided in me that her son did not do well in PSLE. Firstly, she had no time to monitor him (she has no maid and a full load in school). Secondly, he won't study independently (probably... I think... he feels like a loser and won't try). Now you know why I have NO HEART to complain to the school about her.
I reckon I can teach much better than this poor lady. She suffers in the system twice...
(1) as a Teacher who has too many students (and thus no bandwidth to do a good job, and feel pride in it)
(2) as a Mother who entrusted her son to a system that makes him feel like a loser
Next to students, Teachers are the least powerful components of the system. They can effectuate little change if policies are wrong... and TEXTBOOKS LOOK LIKE CHICK LIT. I know a married couple (both teach in MOE)... their kids go to Learning Lab because they don't have time to teach. -

what happened? can share? even preschool teachers are demanding too much?
on teachers, the teachers I know with presch kids are quite involved in teaching them cos they don't want to be parents who 'leave all the teaching to the teachers' cos apparently teachers don't like such parents.
also they are keenly aware of the standards, so they know what needs to be done for their kids to keep up.
many teachers who have pri sch kids prob don't have time to coach them due to the pressures of teaching work. so it's not uncommon for them to get tutors. as parents, we all know how much harder it is to coach our own offspring! -

Absolutely correct....
I did the sums at the session until i saw stars and gave up. My old brain cannot comprehend the logic of it. This wasn't taught during my time.
