Hi I hv been sending my son to Joyce Sim Learning Centre for his English enrichment in Tampines St 21 since K2. I find it rather beneficial for him coz he learns to read and write better. He also learns to speak more clearly now through corrections made by Ms Joyce Sim in a steady and progressive manner. Tks

I am thinking of sending my two year plus toddler girl to a phonics school. Any parents has any good recommendations for me?

                Hi,

                I'm aso a KSM 2! :rotflmao:

My DD is in CC, N2. She will be taught Phonics, Reading etc.

Hmm... Do u all think I need to send my DD for phonics lessons at other phonics centres?

Any Mummies whose kids in CC, can pls share their experience? Do u or do not send?

                Thanks!

                  Hi dearzen,

Exact same situation as yours! 😃

DS in N2. Although it states that they will have their Phonics taught this year, I wld rather have him in a specialised phonics class.

I rmb attending this Phonics class when I was a kid; cldn’t really rmb the age but was somewhere btwn K1 to Pr1. It was at the old John Little at Somerset and was taught by ‘Ang Moh’ teachers. They had rhymes and such and it really improved my spoken English tremendously!

Have browsed through this topic and not much suggestions for the school of choice… I think it also depends on your budget, location and whether you are a fan of private or branded schools. Did a bit of research and a year’s fees may total up to $3k at some schools like BC and LW.

I also send my DS to weekly phonics class altho he is attending CC.
Most CCs do teach phonics using Letterland, Jolly Phonics etc, but I realise what they learn are still pretty elementary, e.g. still doing letter sounds at the start of K1 level.

At least at the phonics class, the teacher will go thr' the sounds/word blending/building together with the kids in a more structured manner and more imptly, some phonics programme will progress your kids to next level according to their ability, not age.

Hi, mummies. Would like to share with you this lovely book that my sister is currently reading with my 4-year-old niece. I have posted pictures of a few sample pages on my blog, http://serenagreenhouse.blogspot.com/

You can use this book to teach your kids vocabulary and expose them to the different types of work people do. You can even use this book for I Spy activities. Have fun!

                        Hi

I managed to talk to my DD’s teacher & principal. Both say her phonics quite good, they will aso teach reading elementary & learn to read etc from N2 onwards…

So guess for the time being, I will observe my DD’s progress & see if need to send anot…
