Homeschooling your child?

One requirement of homschooling is that the child must pass PSLE (the benchmark for homeschoolers). Otherwise, the child will have to keep sitting for PSLE until the age of 15.

So what is the good reasons for home-school? But home-schooling will have less time for socialize with own age kids.

Actually my son is a January kid, in fact both my children are January kids and that is why the teachers be it from the childcare or from the enrichment centres, they are wondering why my son couldnt write and whereby my girl can read and write by age of 4. i think to a certain extent they compare him with my girl. But since my girl in p1, now the comparison is with kids his own age. i have also signed him up for Art class to see if drawing can help him. Will also bring him for assessment, i feel i have to do much in order to comfort myself that everything is alright and he will catch up soon. i guess for the older generation they have this thinking that to bring a child for assessement, there must be something wrong with the kid.Guess it is a stigma which need so be changed and that is y for the assessment, i have to keep quiet and told my hubby to bring my son cos i know my mother in law will keep saying nothing wrong with him, dun need to bring him for assessment

Don't worry too much if it is what others are telling you. Worry only if it is coming from your motherly instinct.

Quick start does not guarantee success in life, slow start does not mean less successful in life. In my family, the first-born boy, my brother, could not speak until age 3-4(that time my inexperienced mum did not even know how to worry since it was her first child and her motherly instinct did not flag a red flag for her ), appeared slow in everything but he was the best academically among my siblings and had the best career eventually.
As mums, the \"simplest\" mission for us is really to understand our children and enjoy the journey with them.

Yupe, i will continue to work hard and have to relax at the same time. I realised now from many mummies that just do the best that we can, no point stressing our kids. Also to love my kids whether they are smart or slow

Just be prepared to receive visits from MYCS personnels if you are homeschooling your preschooler.

Thanks chamonix, ya I heard! My cousin is home-schooling her P2 boy and she said just pick up one of the school's past year exam paper, make her boy do, submit the paper to MOE to get it lodged and that's it. Only at PSLE will you get a cert. Trouble free it seems. But she is SAHM!

That simple? Mine was a little more complicated in France. Two Education Officers spent almost 2 hours at our place to understand us better. They asked to look at our resources, work that my kids had done, what they learnt besides academics - music, art, sports, field trips etc. Even requested for our timetable. (Unfortunately, we didn't have any to share.) A couple of days later, my kids spent another 2 hours with them on verbal and written tests (in our absence). And we met them for a third time to get a report on their overall assessment and performance. It was an interesting experience for us.
