Just be prepared to receive visits from MYCS personnels if you are homeschooling your preschooler.

Thanks chamonix, ya I heard! My cousin is home-schooling her P2 boy and she said just pick up one of the school's past year exam paper, make her boy do, submit the paper to MOE to get it lodged and that's it. Only at PSLE will you get a cert. Trouble free it seems. But she is SAHM!

That simple? Mine was a little more complicated in France. Two Education Officers spent almost 2 hours at our place to understand us better. They asked to look at our resources, work that my kids had done, what they learnt besides academics - music, art, sports, field trips etc. Even requested for our timetable. (Unfortunately, we didn't have any to share.) A couple of days later, my kids spent another 2 hours with them on verbal and written tests (in our absence). And we met them for a third time to get a report on their overall assessment and performance. It was an interesting experience for us.
This is interesting... all I had to do was fill out a form and it was approved in maybe a week? Just one page if I can remember correctly.

That's it! Never had any visit, never had any call, nobody ever 'disturbed' me. They never asked me for a time-table, I think they only asked what syllabus I was going to use. I put down Singapore syllabus. Really easy for me. I didn't even submit any work for my children, my kids were already in primary school, so I guess they already were familiar with my kids' work? When I applied, my daughters were excellent students also.

What's the qualification of the parent to be doing homeschooling? Any specification like must be MOE teachers, or certs must be local uni?

Fieldtrip can means shopping in supermarket? 😂 CCA? No need to be force to do?

This is a sample of what the girls do with me if I do not work:
1. Went for massage at 9 a.m.
2. Go for breakfast at 10:30 a.m.
3. Went window shopping for electronics, more for understanding the newest technology available, and since they do the laundry, to plan for the next kind of washing machine, dryer and also fridge that we will want. We also discussed what made sense for the family.
4. School work: 2 hours for one daughter, another went out with friends (she's on holidays, so no work)
5. Sports training from 4:00 p.m.
6. Cook dinner at 6:30 p.m.
7. Eat at 8:30 p.m.
8. Leisure/hobby until sleep at 10 or 11.

If I work, then no massage and no shopping/field trip. Still very much the same schedule. We were shopping at United Square. My girls thought the kids and their parents are quite poor things, parents sit outside waiting for their children... all thick glasses and some parents look so stressed. On top of that, they go to university a whole 5 years earlier. 🙂 We were thinking what business we could come up with if we were to set up a store at United Square to capitalize the vast market. So we went around asking some store holders what their business is about and watch some children and their faces (market research) and also did some business planning :? and my daughter came up with a theory of why technology makes us more stupid.

I did not have to provide any schedule to MOE. When I asked for homeschooling for my daughter, she was P4, going into P5. I just wrote in the form that I will be using the same text book and syllabus from MOE as published on their website.

It went through smoothly.

Anyway, I see for homeschool, not much governance. Can just submit any Year-end result marks for them to see too, right?

For my daughter, I kept her registered in the school. So officially, she belongs to the school, but she was not physically in the school. She did go back for CCA, though, and even went for SYF and the school got Gold for that. Hehe... yep, I don't know what arrangement that was, but I had a good relationship with that school, and they were really nice.

I know from friends who homeschool that at the end of every year, they have to submit their own self-administered(at home) Exam Results for the whole year. They usually just pluck an SA2 paper either from assessment books or from some schools' past-SA2 papers. As long as they submit some results, they don't need to what kind of exam standard that paper was lor. Have to submit to MOE as they are under \"Exemption from compulsory schooling\".
