Worried parents taking children to psychologists

just read ST forum page today an article by a mother who raised the issue of parents engaging tuition teachers as 2nd line of help to coach their children how to complete the homework given by elite tuition centres who insist the kids to maintain high standards at all times.

This means the poor kids have to attend tuition twice for the same subject. :sad: :faint:

How old are the kids then ?
BTW, hubby told me he has a friend who sends his kids to 2 different kindergartens - morning session one school and afternoon session somewhere else...the one in the afternoon session is to boost the child's Chinese. Bilingual ?

no mention of age but I guess primary school level
My husband's colleague does that for his kid too because he feels the kid should be exposed to different studying style and get the best out of it.
So the poor kid takes lunch (sandwiches) on the school bus which then fetch him to the next centre to continue his studies. So sad for him.

Nothing special... Heard of someone that sent the kid to tuition on same subject with 2 different tuition centres... Every month spent around $5K on tuition. Said if not sent to tuition and if other kids are sent for tuition, will lose and cannot get number 1 in class.

Never ever let anyone tell you it's your fault and you're a bad mom. It's NOT your fault and you are a GREAT mom.

i know but when the going gets tough, self doubt will set in. but i always pick myself up pretty soon cos i know i still have my son which needs my help.

This practice was not uncommon even more than 10yrs ago. Parents would send their kids to the more free-style programmes eg. Montessori in the morning, and then to the nearby PAP kindergarten in the afternoon so that they could pick up Mandarin from mixing with neighbourhood kids and also be drilled in prep for p1.

Montessori learning environment is actually not stressful and quite play/activity oriented.
PAP kindergarten also does not learn much; mainly songs, play etc.
then weekends can free up for rest and fun, why not?
the stress comes in in primary sch la.
