Then, I should do the same thing. It'll be very heavy then.
Yup, mine brought the whole art bag with all the stuff inside.botakgundul:
Dear parents 1C,
How does your kid know what to bring during art class? Will you get your kid to bring all art stationeries such as pencil color, oil pastel, art pallete, poster color etc?
Thanks,
Btw, this week no ting xie rite?
As usual, my DS never mention anything. Let me check w/ him. -
Yes, I was about to ask to cos I went through the Ting Xie list and notice this week no Ting Xie. Next one is on 22 Feb.
-
Just check w/ my DS. He told me no tingxie tom.
I can’t read the tingxie list. I don’t know how to read & speak in Chinese. I outsource this part. -

But for mother tongue,i remember receiving a circular stating that there r different modules for children who r stronger in MT to go for enrichment modules.for weaker students, they may b singled out to attend foundation modules. So tatz a form of streaming kids on a subject already...
However the class is still kept intact as a whole. They only separate during mother tongue lessons.
The streaming that was mentioned earlier was in the context of streaming all the kids into different classes based on their overall results. because i believe mummy_ning was hoping that her twins can be separated next year based on the assumption that there is some form of banding being done at the end of P1.
In the past for lower pri, (and also presently for the upper pri) the kids are streamed based on their English, Maths & Science (fr Pri 3 onwards) results. So there are students who are very weak in their Chinese but are still found in the top class because they excel in Eng / Math / Sci.
Hi
May I know how you know that students who are very weak in their Chinese still managed to get in the top class? Was it heard from parents whose kids are already in the two top classes? I heard from another parent that her son excel in the other 3 subjects but didn't do well in Chinese hence did not manage to get into the two top classes and he was quite disappointed. Am abit confuse now. Thanks

[/quote]some of them are my kids' classmates.
sori, maybe i should clarify, \"very weak\" are in the band 2 range.
bottomline is the banding is based on EMS. As far as i know, the marks of the kids in the A class are all very close. The difference between the 10th position and the 20th position are just several marks difference. So you have many kids scoring almost the same marks. -
Dear Parents 1C,
The next Show & Tell is on 27Feb. The topic is "MyFavourite Mode Of Transport".
Help your kids to bring in a picture or object to show and share 5-7 sentences abt the topic.
The above info, I received from Madam Lim. -

just checking, over the P1 briefing. My wife asked me a qn, did they mentioned that from P3 onwards, the class size would be 40 instead of the now 30, so they merge the class??
Despite knowing that there are no "real" exams in P1 & P2, with the breakdown and the work that parents need to do with the kids before each grading, it is not totally true that there is no exams.
Just told my son that from term 2 onwards, he has to be more careful with his work and at least, be vigilant to pass us any notes from teachers/school so we know of any upcoming events.
btw, did any stayed and talked to the respective HODs? what were the issues/concerns? Pls share if willing. -

They did mention the class size is 40 in P3. But not sure how its done. Maybe other parents here with older kids can shed some light?
I had a look again at the presentation slides for that day, and I think the key message to take away should be - don't be too focused on marks and results! (But as the presenter put it, easier said than done.)
Perhaps our focus should be that education is preparing our kids for the life ahead of them. As life is never perfect, we cannot ask our kids to be perfect too. Allow for mistakes and errors and hopefully, they will learn better from it. Taken in another perspective, perhaps we should ask, what is the worst case senario if my kid did not do well in P1? Is it failing our expectations, or the expectations of the kid? The child is too young now to understand the competition in the real world, but our actions may expedite it.
Coming back to tests, if anyone noticed, the four basic mastery of languages are listening, speaking, reading and writing 听说读写. All 4 components are tested, however, in varying degrees. For English, its 10%-15%-10%-65% for writing. Which means writing plays a very important part. But for MT, its less so, where the ratio is 15%-20%-30%-35%. Personally, I welcome this, as its true many kids are struggling with MT. Hopefully, all the recent changes (announced in early 2011) to the MT curriculum would help our kids to cope better.
btw, there is an excellent thread on how to help your kid in Chinese from here. If your kid is struggling with Chinese, I hope it can help you. http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3878&start=2330 -

The number are classes fr P3 onwards are still the same, i.e. A-H. But H has traditionally been a smaller class with students mostly taking foundational subjects. They did mention the class size is 40 in P3. But not sure how its done. Maybe other parents here with older kids can shed some light?
