carebear:
Carebear, seems like your DD needs the relaxation and can do with lesser sleepPen88n:
DS has been keeping decent sleep time (about 10.30pm), but that does not mean there is little homework either. For Maths alone, I see he had at least 4-5 graded assignments todate. His history and geography assignments took up to a day to research and complete. His nights and weekends are all spent on completing assignments. No time for leisure reading or even little time for revising school work.
You are right, Pen88n.
My dd sleeps so late cos she said she needs some time for her leisure, eg reading books, watching the 9pm show on Channel 8 and checking her facebook. So that's why she sleeps so late.
.
DS will tell me he's drained and needs his :snooze: to recharge for his next long day. Starting next week, his \"shortest\" school day ends at 4pm :nailbite:

a huge thank you to the lovely aunties for their replies! :grphug: :lovesite: :thankyou:
I do indeed feel better after reading them. It seems like every student, be it in the O-Level or IP track, will face this problem. I suppose it depends on how proactive we are and what attitude we have when overcoming these challenges.
I'll just try my best to make my secondary school life a fulfilling one!

:rahrah: :boogie: that's the attitude! You go, girl!

Please visit the RGS thread and see the posts of the matured RGS seniors there - how they study, their attitude towards studies and school, and in some pages they list down their daily schedules. They feel blessed to be in RGS and when they see how the O levels track friends have to work doubly hard, they count their blessings. You will realize that you are not alone. As a 264 high scorer, I am sure you have the resilence to overcome obstacles and get adjusted to IP life quickly. Then next year you can go to Cedar IP thread and contribute your learnings as a matured Cedar IP senior
and look at how helpful DHS parents have been to assure you that there is indeed no slack IP...

Thank you Augmum
Ya, i ever heard fr my gal saying that scouts need to go back sch on Sat and it is rather often.mum_sugoku:
Alas DS will be in school the whole day (8am-5:30pm) today for his CCA (Scout).. Not sure if he would need to go back to school on Sat for CCA on regular basis..and I really hope not. Cos I notice that he's currently loaded with quite a fair amount of homeworks (maths, history, LA) + spelling (english + chen yi), with test (HCL, maths, history) coming up next week.. and such workload is likely to be the norm now.. Don't know how he's gonna cope!
Now I think about it, I also feel stressed..
Yes, time would be v tight if Sat is being used up for CCA, hope he would cope well......
BTW you mentioned something regarding \"end up in 3A or those 7 units classes by end of yr2\" in another post, may I know what is this \"3A or 7 units classes\" about? -
Augmum:
Wei han, this is not something new in DHS too.....
I can recognise this as a feature of the TfU (Teaching for Understanding framework) way of testing students' depth of understanding. I have tried to explain this framework in RV's thread. So far, RV is the pioneering school using this framework for teaching. Cedar-VS alliance IP has also adopted this framework. It is very promising.WeiHan:

one maths graded assignment where you even need to explain with words how you derived your answer and what logical reasoning you used and tons of homework from other subjects.
2 yrs ago i had already seen my gal 's maths assignments having questions,
asking for proving of how one derived his / her answers,
Also required full n clear explanation of why not able to use this or that methods of solving....etc....[/quote]Ya. For instance here is one I found in DS's maths assignment: Estimate the quotient of 84.12/1.69 and 9.02/2.98 to one significant figure.... What guidelines would you give on how to estimate the value of a quotient to 1 sig fig? -

Class 3A is an O lvl class.
what it is alarming is that It even comprises of few pupils from the 2 Gep classes.
The 7 units classes offer 7 subjects instead of the 8 subjects if pupils obtain GPA of below 2.8
( btw, Grade B is equal to GPA of 2.8)
That 's why i said that one cant afford to slack here...... -
Have u DHS parents/ pupils notice the animation clip broadcast on TV .......the CHAMPION of NE mation competition, ??
In this competition, 2 Dunman High teams got into the top 10!Ā
One of the teams not only made it to the top 3
but emerged as the Champion team which is aired on TV :rahrah:
It had been a tough competition based on the track record of some of the participating schools.
:congrats: Well done DHS !!! These pupils have done the school proud. :celebrate:
Here is the video link. Pl enjoy.

I saw Dunman High logo on the Total Defence advertiser in channel 8 just now. Is that the champion clip animation from DHS?

Augmum:
Augmum - indeed alarming and scary. But the IPs would usually say no distinction between mainstream and GEPpers by beginning of Year 3. To begin with, some of the GEPpers may have attained PSLE score quite several marks below DHS COP but had gotten in via DSA. Like what some parents and students shared, after PSLE, it's a new race all over. So late bloomers not picked up as GEP material in P3 may flourish in sec sch while some identified as GEP in P3 may not do as well in sec sch. Actually I hope the other students would be kind to these GEPpers and treat them as normal kids whose results fluctuate. They already have a heavy burden of carrying a GEP tag. Hope all do well in the O level class and continue in DHS year 5. Any idea what's the criteria for O levels students to continue to DHS year 5?

Actually it's still good that at least the school opens 'O' level class for the weaker students.. Recently, I was told that last year, a 3rd-yr student from NJC (he was said to be an ex-GEP who got in there via DSA) was asked to leave NJC because the school assessed that he wouldn't be able to make it through IP. So the parents arranged for him to go to a neighbourhood school, but, instead of proceeding to sec 4, the new school required him to stay back in sec 3 again, reason being the IP syllabus was different from 'O' level ones and so he needs to start anew..
