Yes, that is the one ( Total defence advertisement on TV)........
I saw Dunman High logo on the Total Defence advertiser in channel 8 just now. Is that the champion clip animation from DHS?

Any idea how the students in the O level class perform at O levels? If their results are good, these students might as well stay on at DHS. A small class size with dedicated teachers may be better than going to another secondary school.
yes, in a way.........mum_sugoku:
I see
.
Actually it's still good that at least the school opens 'O' level class for the weaker students.. Recently, I was told that last year, a 3rd-yr student from NJC (he was said to be an ex-GEP who got in there via DSA) was asked to leave NJC because the school assessed that he wouldn't be able to make it through IP. So the parents arranged for him to go to a neighbourhood school, but, instead of proceeding to sec 4, the new school required him to stay back in sec 3 again, reason being the IP syllabus was different from 'O' level ones and so he needs to start anew..
But hearsay, there are pupils who applied to other sec schs
when they are being streamed to the O lvl class in DHS at the end of yr2. -
mum_sugoku:
:whut: stay back sec 3 again ?? that's is really sad......

I thot usually by end of yr2, ( instead of yr3), the sch would have identified the weaker ones and notified them already. -

I have no idea as gal dunno any seniors fr the O class.

Btw, now no longer a small class size as compared to the past yrs.
Think the morale and the enviroment not too condusive.....( juz my guess and some hearsay). -
Augmum:
Couldn't NJC have retained the boy in Year 3? He could have repeated the year in NJC and progressed on to finish his A levels at NJC. Unless his results were so bad they deemed that he wouldn't have been able to proceed on to Year 5/6. But Augmum is right. They should have been able to identify him at the end of Year 2 so that if he needed to move to an O level school, retention wouldn't have been necessary.

Snow crystal, first of all, i think u have misunderstood my intended meaning of my posting.
Augmum - indeed alarming and scary. But the IPs would usually say no distinction between mainstream and GEPpers by beginning of Year 3. To begin with, some of the GEPpers may have attained PSLE score quite several marks below DHS COP but had gotten in via DSA. Like what some parents and students shared, after PSLE, it's a new race all over. So late bloomers not picked up as GEP material in P3 may flourish in sec sch while some identified as GEP in P3 may not do as well in sec sch. Actually I hope the other students would be kind to these GEPpers and treat them as normal kids whose results fluctuate. They already have a heavy burden of carrying a GEP tag. Hope all do well in the O level class and continue in DHS year 5. Any idea what's the criteria for O levels students to continue to DHS year 5?Snow Crystal:

Class 3A is an O lvl class.
what it is alarming is that It even comprises of few pupils from the 2 Gep classes.
The 7 units classes offer 7 subjects instead of the 8 subjects if pupils obtain GPA of below 2.8
( btw, Grade B is equal to GPA of 2.8)
That 's why i said that one cant afford to slack here......
The key words are \"cant afford to slack\" esp when i read someone mentioned here abt \" Super slack\".
The issue here ISNT so much becos of early or late bloomers, Geppers or Mainstreamers as what u have stated.
Yes, there is no distinction between Geppers and  Mainstreamers by yr 3
as pupils are streamed according to their subj combo and results as well.
i am not too certain whether those few who were downgraded to O lvl class were \" truly Geppers\"Â or
they were mainstreamers with high psle agg score of 27X, as all these ppils are grouped under the 2 SBGE classes.
Be it Geppers or Mainstreamers, early or late bloomers,
pupils who are downgraded to O lvl class,
do generally have  some learning atitude problems,i.e.....very slack ( fr what i have seen and heard).
The school itself, has already done her part in trying to \" maintain\" them in the IP.
Much efforts  have been done, such  as by end of yr 1,Â
pupils with poor results are being identified and forced to attend the mandatory supervisory studies,Â
with close monitoring of their results.
Letters  with details of results of tests, exams, graded assignments N projects obtained in diff sch terms
are collated for parents to see and aknowledge.
Hence, both parents and pupils are notified.
And it is not only 1 letter given but several letters in a yr.
But if they continue slacking and ignore their studies, i guess the sch cant help any further.
in addition, besides academic results, heard that the school  would also weigh on teachers'Â
comments/ recommendations over these pupils' learning attitude in class.
The above is what i have found out fr my gal as there were some ex classmates who went to 3A.[/quote]
Yes, agreed with Augmum. Whether you are Geppers or High T-scorer there isn't any different when you are in Y1.
The few marks below DHS COP for Geppers to get in or going in at high 27X does not make a different. The Geppers are taking a different program and some of the things they learn in p4-p6 will be taught in Y1 IP school that few marks on DHS COP does not make much diff. The high T-scorer work hard and with their resilence they made it with high PSLE score.
When come to Y1 all depend on how hard they want to work to achieve good results......no slacking.

The number of students that drop out to O level track has increased. Is it due to the school raising the bar (from gpa2.5 to 2.8) or the standard of the students in that cohort has dropped?

I didn't know DHS GEP class also has top PSLE scorers. But if the top PSLE scorers are the \"slackers' >> :yikes: :siam:
Yes, it's a new race in sec sch.
