When an enrichment centre claims credit in half page ads for the top 2 scores in PSLE 2011, where does that leave the MOE schools? See how TLL specifically mention \"curriculum research teams\"? These teams really WRITE materials that TLL Teachers use to teach. I have seen the English compo materials. They are far better than what my son has received in English compo in all 6 years of primary school.

TLL teachers are NOT expected to write their own materials.

An ad like this is a strong indictment of the quality MOE schools deliver. Not only MOE cannot adequately teach the slower ones (whose Teachers exhort the need for tuition), it can't even produce PSLE top scores on its own (with students who are clearly highly able).

Don't Teachers realize that it is their inalienable right to have access to educational materials to teach with without having to write them personally? Would a farmer ask an odd job labourer to hoe the soil without providing a hoe? If people didn't have to write their own teaching materials, their workload would go down by a great deal.

I saw that ad...it will make MORE parents join the waiting list for that centre.
What MOE schools cannot teach, these centres can. Our kids still have to attend schools because it is compulsory but after school ends, they NEED tuition to make up what their schools are NOT teaching.

The schools don't TEACH the material BUT they do TEST it.

Yes, me too. I know a few schools that do too. :hugs: In fact our DDs schools have creative writing resource added in their booklists as well. Eh.. mebbe the teachers in DDs schools go for external enrichment pgrm! :idea: And they share them (notes/resources) to the students! Aah! Mebbe that's where all the great print-outs the kids bring back come from! :idea:

I guess because this practice of adding in extra resources that are deemed good listings in the market is highly subjective btwn schools, parents may find it unfair why some school teachers bother to stream the bookshops for good finds for their students and some just don't.

I view our education system very similar to the healthcare system. We have gov polyclinics and hospitals but if u want more specialised and better treatment go for private (means more $$ too).
