I would like to check with parents who send their kids for weekly swimming lessons - how long do they generally take to learn to swim?

I know every kid is different but can anyone kindly share how long they take to swim breadth/lap/without board/breast stroke/freestyle?

My DS (7+) attends weekly swimming lessons for more than 8 months.
He is not that type who is afraid of water, in fact he loves it but he is still swimming with the board after all these while and he cant swim a single breadth without stopping and cant trap water for long.
Other kids in his class (abt his age) are also at the same pace as him.

I start to wonder if his coach is \"lazy\" because I noted how fast some kids learnt in other classes and their coaches seem stricter.
I spoke to my DS's coach and he kept saying all kids are different lah.. hv to go along with their pace lah..
As much as I want my DS to enjoy swimming (he likes this coach), I couldnt help but thk if he is \"dragging\" the lessons so that he can earn more?.... :scratchhead:
Can you or your spouse swim? If either of you can swim, suggest you take your child into the pool once and then you can determine the issue.
      We did that before.

        rong05:
Sometimes, a change of coach and environment may help to spur the child on for a moment which might help to overcome the hurdle. For DS's case, every changed of coach, I do see improvement cos he was already stagnant and too comfortable at where he was with the previous coach.

        Hi rong05!
Thanks for sharing!... Agree with you on the above.. i shall monitor and watch my DS's progress more closely before making a decision.
But he likes this coach becos he can be in his \"playing\" mode in e class.. shall see how..

From what i hear fr my DH (who now swims with him after his class), he said my DS seems to be swimming/doing the same thing for the past few mths, nothing interesting/new.
We did mention to my DS abt the possibility of changing his class and he gave this super loud protest of \"NOOOOOOO!!!....\".... 🤷

sometimes in a too comfortable environment will also delay e development of the child.

Need to give a little of push then they will wake up 🙂
          just my 2 cents

                Good morning,

My daughters (turning 6 & 7 this year) are with the Torpedo swim team. I find them to be systematic and the coaches 'clicks' well with the children - Firm but nice. So, the children (even those who tend to be more playful) listens to the instructors. My girls enjoys their classes and looks forward for their swimming lessons.

They have classes on Sat and Sundays mornings and evenings. They might have other timings on other days as well - You have to chk.

You can contact them at 91277651.

                Thanks!

                      Hi Sewzpassion

Have you send your son there already? if so, how do you find the classes?

i'm also interested in signing up my 6 yr old. my boy is rather sensitive to trying new things and according to what's posted on their website, the coaches seem to be well equipped with handling children.

if anyone has any experiences with this swim school, pls share... :thankyou:
