I really find that DS1 (1O2) is spending too much time on computer.
How do you parents manage that ?
He is forever reading EMB, working on his blog, on FB (so that he can ask his friends questions), use the Science CD, etc.
Of course, in between, he will sneak into Mousehunt to play.
I feel very uncomfortable.
Any parents feeling equally frustrated ?
Last night, DH and I decided to setup another study table in the Dining Room... so that he can use his laptop there.....under watchful eyes.... -

Yeap, normally I will ask him how long he need to use it and will timed accordingly but the max is only up to 2hrs for weekdays only. After that, he either sms or call the classmates to discuss. We normally place the MacBook on our long dinning table.. he cannot carry the Mac book up to his room  -

Dear YamatomatoMy DS will be having the Infocom test this coming Fri. He has not done well during the mock test. He told me that that he finds Infocomm not easy. Can anyone advise how to prepare for test for this subject. There is no textbook. Anything that they can read up online?
Thanks
The Infocomm notes are posted at New iVLE.. your DS could check out from there. In fact, some other subjects' notes are there too, like Science, IH, Math..

Computer time is a bit problem to control now. But I could not understand why the Proed Dir says 30 mins a day is all the child needs. Somewhere it does not gel so well with the amount of work and research they have. Just reading EMB (which is so slow) can take up a good part of the 30 mins. -
I was very worried about the computer usage before when a senior pre-warned me about the amount of time her son spent on computer gaming in sec 1 & 2. I was told, when her DS was allowed to bring his notebook to school in sec 2, the kids started to hangout at nearby fast food chain to play. Also with smart phones, it becomes harder to supervise the undesirable websites they go to. Luckily or unlikely this year in sec 3, the workload has increased so much that her DS has no time to continue with his βnonsenseβ, as she puts it.
I do not think checking EMB takes up that much time as there are no more than 5 messages a day and most do not require any response. What needs supervision is the use of facebook. It is a distraction as messages keep popping up every other second, many of which are non productive / undirected discussions. One just cannot focus when in the middle of work, the phone keeps beeping or vibrating. For that I set firm rules, no messing around with the phone in the middle of a piece of work. Any questions or doubts if help is needed should be clarified before or after at one go.
Other than that, there is very little else we can do to reduce computer time. Doing up notes, putting up ppts, researching or working on IS related projects, they all take time. I would rather they put in good effort than to rush to complete them. -

Strongly agree, this is the most headache now, I think we need to work hard, smart and more patiently atleast two years until DSs can manage themselves.I was very worried about the computer usage before when a senior pre-warned me about the amount of time her son spent on computer gaming in sec 1 & 2.
