            Hi

Let me give it a try.

Q1 tests students on tense sequence.

The present perfect tense have not had shows a connection between the past and the present.

“Since” signals the starting point of an action or event. It means from a point in the past until now.

For Q2, yet is used as a connector to express contrast.

            Best wishes

For open-ended comprehension question, how do we need to put comma in front of the quotation marks? My child’s teacher taught her to put the comma.

Qn 1: What word in the passage is the opposite of the word ‘strong’?
Answer 1: The word is, "frail".

Qn 2: Which sentence tells you that Norah did not enjoy the durian"?
Answer 2: The sentence is, "Sorry Ning, NOT loving this awful-smelling treat!".

                Thank you.

                  Hi

I am wondering why we need to place the commas for these two sentences.

Perhaps, you may want to clarify with the school teacher.

                  Best wishes

I checked teachers' answer keys for several school papers, and did not see a comma being used before quoted elements
But, in another thread, I've just learnt that the comma is required. Perhaps the rationale is that commas are used to separate quoted material from the rest of the sentence that explains/introduces the quotation?

                      Hi

                      Thank you for your response.

I am not familiar with PSLE English.

I went to Popular and looked at three books.

All three books showed no comma after a linking verb and before quoted text.

                      The word is “XXXXX”.
                      The word is ‘XXXXX’.

Two books used single quotation marks instead of double quotation marks.

I think the best person to check is your kid’s school teacher; just send them an email to clarify.

                      Best wishes
