It is not difficult to surf the internet for the alleged reasons some may feel HC has not proven convincingly. There has been an unfortunate coincidental series of choices which has turned out badly - eg Micropolis, Chartered Semicon, ABC Learning, ShinCorp, Barclays, ML, BoA, etc etc.

Timing, I guess, is important. You do need luck ( and deep pockets ) to be a successful risk taker. :oops:

Beside that, i won't consider TH a disaster since its total capitalisation was at 166 billions on March 2008 but it is already well over 180 billions to date.

Oh yes, I am most certainly a baitor, insofar as I try to use that to provoke a bit of thinking.

There is a lot of 'noise' around HC's competency. My view on her is equivocal, and my understanding of TH is that they ain't sooo bad, so I am truely curious as to why she receives such brickbats, apart from the fact she goes to bed with the PM (legally by the way).

TH isn’t that bad but they aren’t that good either. The capitalisation is back to pre crisis level. However, taking inflation into the equation, our wealth may have shrunked.


As I have advocated, and 3boys have read, I have been perplexed as to why TH has not put part of our reserve into gold/silver, and resources mining companies. Between 2008 and now, gold price has more than doubled. Surely, if that has been part of our portfolio, TH performance will have been better and with a lower risk, more diversified portfolio. this is not hindsight. TH can still make the choice today. I am glad that Tharman has finally make investment in gold GST tax free by october this year.

ok.. didn't expect you to be waiting for a response so I leave it as it is with you having the last say..

But since you mentioned.. I'm just curious.. heard that during GCT era, economic crisis hit Asian region.. many countries was hit but SG was essentially not much affected..

during LHL era.. economic crisis hit European region.. most Asian countries were unaffected much but SG was hit hard..

I'm not trained in economics so don't expect an analysis from me. But, have you heard about such comments?

Next, if I were to appoint a financial adviser, I don't care how he perform wrt to the others, I expect him to perform. Cannot perform, out, try another person. I want to see results, not excuses. Is that not how the corporate world works?

Now, if it is just a natural party, perhaps the public can be more forgiving.. but since her identity is quite \"Sensitive\".. and given the fact that $$$$$ was lost.. it really cast doubts abt her ability, and whether she really got in by capability.. from a objective viewpoint, isn't that a fair comment?

even if she is not a \"disaster\".. Is there really NO one else? Is there really No One Better?

Definitely. That's why I defended myself in the other thread. If words are put into our mouths or we're provoked into saying things with no evidence to back us up, we might land ourselves into hot soup.
